I was looking at the criteria when applying for a tourist visa or METV.

It was saying you have to provide proof of air tickets in and out of Thailand. How does that work if you intend to get extensions on the visa while there, and not being able to change the return date on the ticket.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a tourist visa or a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand, applicants must provide proof of air tickets indicating departure from Thailand within the visa's validity period. However, complications arise if one intends to extend their stay. If an applicant shows a departure flight within 60 days on a single-entry tourist visa but plans to extend their visa while in Thailand, this can lead to issues. Suggestions include purchasing a flexible ticket or a refundable flight for the necessary proof, and utilizing online resources or forum searches to gather more information on the application process.

For the single entry 60 day tourist visa - if you intend to do an extension and you flight out of Thailand is then - it wonโ€™t work. You need to show departure at or before the 60 days. So get a cheap air asia flight to ?? International and use that. Sometimes I actually take the flight, sometimes I do the extension ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

not in my experience. I always show airfares for 90 day trip and write 60 + 30 in intended length of stay. Thai Embassy Canberra. Never been a problem.

, That's what you need to check the exact embassy you are applying for your tourist visa. Some clearly say you need to show within 60 days, some say within 90 days is acceptable because of the extension.

both of you are correct ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

This is where the requirements can vary by embassy/consulate when getting a tourist visa

For single entry some require you show onward travel within the 60 days you'll get stamped in for BUT for others they'll accept onward travel within 90 days of your arrival date because they know you can apply for the 30 day extension

It is the experience of most people who applied for the METV online using the eVisa system that they show onward travel within the first 60 days after arrival and then show a flight back IN to thailand after that <- it's that leaving/coming back which "justifies" to the embassy you need an METV

You show a reason WHY you need the METV, and that is showing that you're leaving thailand in 60 days and then coming back a few days after that

Get a ticket you can change :)
