Do I need to book a flight out within 90 days for a SETV in Thailand?

Regarding the 60day SETV - the application form wants proof of a flight departing Thailand, if I plan to come out on the visa, extend, then leave to get another visa, will the first visa be granted if my flight out is for the end of the entire period (eg. 180days), or do I need to book a flight out after 90 days to a neighbouring country for the first visa to be granted?

Alternatively if I do a 45day exempt entry with the plan to extend, leave and repeat 45day exempt and extension, will I have any issues either checking in for my flight from London or at immigration in Bangkok, as in will either place ask for proof of leaving in 45/75days?

UK passport. Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question pertains to the requirement of showing proof of onward travel when applying for a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) for Thailand. The user inquires if they must provide a flight out within 90 days to secure the visa, given their intention to extend and repeat visa exemptions. Comments from others suggest that while proof of onward travel is generally expected by airlines and during the visa application process, personal experiences vary, with some reporting no issues at the airport or when obtaining their SETV.

I have recently (Aug) obtained a SETV using the eVisa website in the UK. My Lon-Bkk return ticket is Oct-Apr. I did not show any flight ticket out of Thailand within 60 days to obtain it.

Me and my partner both booked flights out on day 59 to be safe on an SETV application but paid an extra £13 for cancellation. Cancelled once we got here and got our full flight money back minus the £13 extra to have cancellation.

Neither of us got asked for proof of onward travel by Qatar airways at Manchester airport however that is purely anecdotal and is different with other air carries/airports I’m sure

You were lucky with Qatar, they are normally very strict on onward flights

we both flew separately 18 days apart and neither of us had any questions minus Covid pass and travel insurance which got the tiniest flicker of an eye 🤣 didn’t even look!

However we had what was needed if we were asked was my point just that it’s safer to do and book with cancellation for a refund

In order to get a single entry tourist visa issued using the eVisa website in the UK you need to show a flight out in 60-90 days or it is my experience they won't approve it at the consulate.

As far as your visa exempt entry plan whether you have issues checking in without a visa for thailand and without proof of onward travel in 30-45 days is between you and the air carrier you fly here with.

You are unlikely to have any issues IF you board your plane when you land here to stamp in visa exempt

sorry just to clarify, if you get a SETV normal tourist visa and plan to extend to 90 days in total, do you need an outbound flight on the 60th day? Or on the 90th day? Or is a flight on 60th day 'safer' at all (I want to play things very, very safe)?

, basically, wouldn't be different much.

If you mean when you deal with an immigration officer at passport control upon arrival to Thailand, either would work if you asked. But it's unlikely to be asked unless you have an extensive history of traveling/staying in Thailand.

It's a different story if your air carrier would check your outbound ticket within 60 days or not. You need to talk with your air carrier. Many airlines don't check outbound tickets at check-in if you have a proper visa though.

very useful thanks, no extensive history but one of us is Ethiopian. Our carrier (Ethiopian) asked only for covid and yellow fever certs, and the Thai Pass, a week ago, long after it was discontinued.

Keep in mind at this time most all airlines do not know that the visa exempt entry program will increase from a 30 day entry stamp to 45 days on Oct 1st.

I would get onward travel (for the airline requirement) at 30 days out NOT 45 just to be safe.
