Do I need to go through immigration at DMK if I'm transiting to Cambodia?

I'm currently in Vietnam. I'd like to transit via DMK to Cambodia, but I heard I'd have to go through immigration at DMK, which I'm nervous to do (long history of exempt entries in Thailand and the dreaded volunteer visa). Is this true? Frankly if I did have to, and they let me through, I'd prefer to just stay in Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about the need to pass through immigration at DMK airport during a transit to Cambodia from Vietnam, especially given their history with visa exemptions in Thailand. Commenters clarify that if traveling on a single ticket and not self-transferring, they would not need to enter Thailand through immigration. Recommendations suggest booking direct flights or using a fly-thru ticket to avoid complications.

One ticket = one PNR = one check-in = one immigration stamp

FLY THRU TICKET= No hassle .

Why would you leave the secure transit area?

Make sure you use the same airline and book the flights with DMK as the layover?

You do not go thru immigration during transit.

Why are you flying to Thailand and then to Cambodia when there are direct flights into Cambodia? And why would you go through immigration if you're just transiting? None of this makes sense.

This is what I'm trying to clear up--I heard that you would have to go through immigration at DMK even if just transiting. If that's not the case, it makes my life a lot easier. Thanks.

I've never experience going through immigration to transit, just gone through security an extra time when transiting in Beijing.

If you have one flight all the way and it's not "self-transfer" you don't need to go into Thailand and therefore not go through immigration.

I was recommended to try to transit if by air to Chiang Mai if I wasn't prepared to go via a border crossing. I didn't have any ED visa myself. That's just to get in, beyond that you have to make arrangements for appropriate visa for long term stay.

No, in some cases, you don't need to clear immigration and you can simply transit within the terminal.

Oh yes, I would plan to leave through immigration in Cambodia after transiting via Thailand.

Explain better, then maybe people can really help...

only if you have a forward or joining flight and if you don't leave the terminal but at some stage of your journey you must leave a airport terminal through immigration there is no way around that

Why not just go direct from Vietnam and avoid any potential issue at DMK?
