Hello! I would like to ask advice regarding my travel. I am from Philippines will be travelling from Moscow to Manila via Bangkok. It is not a connecting flight, it is a separated flight ticket, Moscow-Bangkok & Bangkok-Manila, same day arrival and departure in 3 hours. I am aware of the thailand pass which is for tourist only. Anyone know what could be done for a self transfer passenger like me? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice about a self-transfer situation in Bangkok, where they have separate flight tickets from Moscow to Manila via Bangkok. They are concerned about passing immigration and the necessity of the Thailand Pass, as well as the possibility of needing a visa. The discussion highlights the importance of checking both airlines for through-check-in options and understanding the requirements for entering Thailand, given the traveler's specific itinerary.

Hi! Thank you for your replies. The problem with me is it is a self transfer. I will have to pass immigration, claim baggage then go to the depature for my next flight.

I don't think this group is for travel tips/advice. But here is a bit of tip.

First of all, you need to check BOTH airlines to see if you can do 'through-check-in" for your whole itinerary. Many airlines do provide those services, even your tickets are separately purchased and both airlines are NOT in the same alliance. If you can do through-check-in, talk with the airlines again to see if you need to pick up your luggage at BKK or not. The best is you check both airlines through the support channel, AND check both about your luggage pickup with Bangkok contacts of both airlines. (Because the worldwide support doesn't always know about detailed operations at each airport).

If you still need to go through passport control at BKK, you don't need a visa but you definitely need Thailand Pass. And you may need to book ASQ/SHA+. Since Russia is not among the countries eligible for the Test&Go program, to see how long you need to expect before you can back to the departure area (or if and how you can just go back to the check-in counter immediately), you need to contact Thaipass contact or other Thai government channels.

@Ellie ******
thank you for the information.

Check the Thailand Pass FAQ.

It depends on your itinerary you only transit inside BKK or you are going to change between BKK and DMK..

...what is your thoughts on this subject? My concern is without a Thailand Pass he will not be able to check in for his flights. I think he will need a transit visa and Thailand Pass along with other requirements.

@James *******
I'm with
@Ellie ******
and
@Tod ********
- and no Thailand Pass needed, but insurance and test. If staying airside, no visa as well.

@James *******
if it's the flight you don't have to go through passport control ENTER Thailand, There are check-in counters INSIDE the airport..
James ********
@Ellie ******
its his first flight that I am concerned with...this is all new.
Ellie *******
@James *******
if so, I guess MFA wouldn't write the FAQ like that in the first place.

If you still are worried you need to contact Thailand Pass (there are many contact channels are listed) or Airline in advance.

@Ellie ******
its when I see the Transit Visa as a visa option that I wonder why it is there if its not needed.
Ellie *******
@James *******
That visa is required for the nationalities who are not eligible for visa-exempt or visa-waiver (on bilateral agreement). They need a transit visa if they have to wait more than a certain amount of time in the airport or when they have to change the airport (for example, BKK-DMK)

@James *******
, So, you are saying other passport holders, that are eligible for a visa-exempt scheme, for example, a USA citizen will need Transit Visa if he takes a transit flight through BKK airport going to another destination?
Stephan *******
@Ellie ******
no visa needed. Transitting to stay inside the building is international grounds. At least not till before Covid.
Ellie *******
If op doesnโ€™t go through the passport control at BKK, how and where does me need transit visa?
James ********
@Ellie ******
he is not entering Thailand...only doing transit for three hours in BKK....from Moscow to BKK to Manila

"Ordinary passport holder who wishes to enter the Kingdom for the following purposes is subjected to be granted Transit visa.

Travel in transit through the Kingdom in order to proceed to the country of destination or to re-enter his/her own country"
