Do I need to cancel my last ED visa extension before getting a new visa in my home country?

I am currently on my last extension of stay based on an ED visa. This gave me a total of 9 months in Thailand. Planning to continue "advanced classes" (got the documents from the ministry of education approved). I will get a new Non Imm ED visa in my home country. My question: do I need to cancel this last extension before leaving the country? I heard this case is the only exception where I don't have to cancel the extension.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on the last extension of stay for an ED visa and is planning to apply for a new Non Imm ED visa in their home country for further studies. They ask if they need to cancel their current extension before leaving Thailand. Responses from the community vary: one suggests that it is not necessary to cancel if the new visa is for continued advanced studies at the same school, while another advises that cancellation is required with proper documentation from the school.

Actually I just asked at a school about this very thing today. IF you are enrolled in a school for the (basic and intermediate) levels; where you get a 90 day ED visa and then get 6 months of extension (taking you to about 9 months of study) AND you are going to re-enroll in the same school for the advanced level; where you leave the country to get a NEW 90 day ED visa and then get 3 more months of extensions (taking you to 6 months of study) you DO NOT need to cancel your current ED extension when you go to get your new 90 day single entry ED visa at the thai consulate in another country.

PLEASE NOTE: I mean no disrespect about posting contrary information. I just happened to be at a thai language school today and the subject came up about canceling the ED visa extensions and they told me the ONLY time you don't cancel one is when you're going from the basic/intermediate ED visa/extension on to the advanced ED visa/extension You just leave the country and get a new 90 day single entry ED visa.

Last year I took a year of Thai classes I was told the only way to take advanced classes was to become a Japanese student and take

advanced Thai. Was I misinformed?

I'm retired and don't go school. Just relax and enjoy life.

Oh the school made it sound like the visa rule was that u could only take 1 year of Thai classes on a student and then I had to switch it to a Japanese student visa. What's the name of your school?
Robert *******
If your school only teach half Japanese and half advanced Thai in combination that you are correct informed by the school. But school teaching programs has not much to do with a Visa.

Yes, you need to cancel the Extension of Stay before you leave, you do this with papers from your school. Get the papers dated on or just after the day you fly out.
