Do I Need to Cancel My ED Visa Before Applying for a Non-IO Visa in Thailand?

Currently stamped in on my first ED visa until 15 April. I need to stay until Thailand until 17 April. On 17th April I will fly home.

I will no longer need the ED visa as I am about to get married and apply for a non-IO visa (thai wife) in my home country.

I have no plans to get another ED visa in the future.

1) Do I need to cancel my ED visa? If so, best I do this within the last week of my stamped in date? I believe I read you need to cancel it, and when you do so, you will have 7 days of to leave Thailand?

2) Alternatively if I don't have to cancel it, can I request an extension of stay around 13th April, pay, get denied and that way be able to stay in Thailand until 17 April?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an ED visa valid until April 15 and wishes to stay until April 17 before flying home. They inquire about the necessity of canceling their ED visa since they will not need it after their marriage and upcoming application for a non-IO visa. The comments indicate that there is no need to cancel a single-entry ED visa, and while getting an extension is not possible, the user might receive a denied extension that would allow for an additional 7 days of stay.

1. If you're on a single entry ED visa, and you do not have an extension of stay, then there is nothing to cancel.

2. you can not get an extension. You *MAY* be able to get an extension of stay denied though, if the immigration office is willing to sell you one. That extension of stay denied is valid for 7 days and begins on the day you receive it.

1. Indeed a single entry ED visa, no extension. Good to know that there is nothing I need to cancel, thanks.

2. OK I will try and see if they sell me a denied extension ;) Else I will go for a land border run to get the remaining 2 days I need.
