Can I cancel my education visa before leaving Thailand instead of extending it?

I currently have an education visa (original stamp, not extension) and I'm due for my first extension soon (Aug 20). However, I plan to leave Thailand on Aug 26 and I do not need to re-enter on this visa.

My question is, instead of going through the process to extend this visa, can I go to immigration to "cancel" the visa and get a "get out of Thailand within 7 days" stamp?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of canceling their education visa instead of applying for an extension, given their intention to leave Thailand shortly after the extension due date. Responses reveal that while one cannot directly cancel a visa, they can approach immigration to either apply for an extension (which is likely to be denied) or to obtain a 7-day exit stamp. The importance of having supporting documentation and the potential implications of receiving a denial stamp are also discussed.

You cannot cancel a 90 day visa, you can only cancel extensions.

At the end of your 90 day visa, apply for an extension and get denied, they will give you 7 days to leave Thailand.

this would not be considered “overstay” correct?

no not overstay but a "denial of extension " still not a great stamp to have.

Not so much for Thailand but other countries may frown upon a denial or overstay stamp.

Just leave and I got a feeling your coming back on an exempt stamp

If you are already on an extension of stay you need to cancel it at immigration with a letter from your school. You can't cancel a visa. Check your passport. You should leave the day you either cancel your current (you can do this in advance) or the day your visa expires. But you can go to immigration and apply for an extension which they will refuse and give you 7 days to leave the country, make sure you take your flight details with you and be aware it normally starts immediately, it's not added to your existing date

I am not on extension of stay right now. Does that change anything?

as regards having to cancel anything yes, you don't need to. You should be able to get an address 7 days by going to immigration and explaining what you want. You would need to apply for an extension which costs 1900 baht, which they will deny and they should give you 7 days to get out of the country. Timing is important

Okay something went wrong, let's try this again.

I think you can indeed do that. Nice trick! But I'd prefer some backing from the more senior members in this group before proceeding, don't take my word for it.
