Hi all, iv asked around with not much luck or concrete knowledge. My current ED visa expires 6th December, it was a 6 month Ed visa for Muay Thai obtained in Loas. I have now enrolled to study at university in Bangkok so I require a ED VISA.

Do I need to cancel current ED before it expires to allow time to get new one?

Do I need to leave the country? If so which country?

I have done a 60 day tourist (plus extension) then a 30 day tourist from Myanmar, ED Visa from Loas. All border by car part from my 60 visa on arrival from UK.

Can someone please advise me what to do as getting mixed adivice ๐Ÿ™„

Many thanks ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on how to transition from a soon-to-expire ED visa obtained in Laos to a new ED visa required for university studies in Bangkok. They ask if they need to cancel their current visa before it expires and whether they need to leave Thailand to apply for the new visa. Community responses suggest consulting the university for guidance, as they may help with obtaining an ED visa within Thailand, and mention potential options for obtaining a tourist visa from nearby countries such as Myanmar or Vietnam.

Ok many thanks you have been a massive help, if I was to go Myanmar again would I go to the immigration in the city? I only went to the border last time and was back in the same day. Thanks

you were asking about getting a tourist visa not me

BTW: you never had any 30 day tourist visas because there's no such thing. Those are 30 day visa EXEMPT entries you got by exiting/re-entering at a land crossing or by flying in.

You specifically said you needed a TOURIST visa.. <- and to get one of those you GO to a thai consulate in another country and BUY one.

Now if all you need is another 30 day visa exempt entry AND you haven't gotten TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land so far this year just bounce out and back in like you did before.

As far as where you should go to get a new single entry tourist visa. I'd say Savannakhet and Vientiane are out because of your previous entry history.

You could try Yangon again, or HCMC / Hanoi in vietnam.

I would make plans to exit the country and go BUY a new single entry tourist visa from a consulate nearby THEN get a letter from your current school stating you are stopping studying on the date you're scheduled to fly out. GO to the immigration office a week or so before that date and cancel your current extension. They will stamp you in until the date on the cancellation paperwork.

Then just stamp out of the country, GO buy a new single entry tourist visa come back get stamped in for 60 days and during that time take the paperwork from Siam University to the immigration office and apply for the in country conversion to a 90 day Non-ED visa.

and what does your SCHOOL suggest you do?

Many universities get ED visas INSIDE the country from the thai immigration office in that area. They don't send people out of the country to get them.

You need to be talking to the university. If you have to leave the country to get an ED visa they'll know where to send you. I mean you can't be the only foreigner enrolled there who needs an ED visa..

it is Siam university. They advised me to leave and get another tourist visa, then apply for their ED.
