I need some clarity please. I know this gets asked so often. So I am sorry in advance.

I am currently on an ED visa, but leaving for Laos to obtain an Non B.

With regards to my ED visa. Am I supposed to cancel it here in BKK before I leave? Or would taking a letter from my Uni to Laos be enough?

I am just ao worried it causes issues in trying to get my new visa there.

And then secondly, they will issue a Non b to me on that side on Vientiane?

Please help, as I need to book my flights and pay for them by tomorrow morning.

Thanx in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an ED visa and plans to obtain a Non-B visa in Laos. They are seeking clarification on whether they need to cancel their ED visa in Bangkok or if bringing a cancellation letter from their university will suffice. Responses indicate that the ED visa is automatically canceled upon leaving Thailand without a re-entry visa, and if they are on an extension of stay, they should cancel it at an immigration office before leaving.

, are you on the original entry stamp from the VISA itself or are you on an extension of stay? If you're on an extension I have seen people denied exiting thailand because they didn't cancel their extension, but that was at a land border, not when flying out.

If you're on an extension of stay I'd take the paper from the uni, go to the immigration office and cancel your extension. If you're not leaving the country that day you should also get the 7 day stamp to exit the country at that time.

I am really worried that we have issues. I have heard we can just go if we fly. Would really like to hear from others about if they have done it

, If you're flying outta the country, there's a good chance that you'll get stamped out okay at the immigration counter at the airports. It's just the land borders that can be cranky.

Thank you. I am on the extension of stay stamp. I thought that I would have to go to Immigration. Was just not too sure. The joys. How I hate that place. But it will have to be sone then

If you leave the country without a re-entry visa, your current ED will automatically be cancelled.

If you're on an ED visa it will be cancelled when you leave Thailand. If you're on an extention of stay then you should cancel it at your local immigration office.

Not sure what you mean on that side. You have to apply for the Visa at Consulate or Embassy. Your employer should have provide lots of paper works for that. Letter from Uni that your study is cancelled is okay to cancel you ED visa on exit.

So if I fly into Vientiene a letter fron Uni is more than enough? I don't have to go to Chaeng wattana first?
