Can someone help please? I'm travelling to Thailand in January and plan to stay 33 days. I then fly from Bangkok to Vietnam for 12 days and return to Bangkok to fly back to UK. Do I need a 60 day visa? Or if I get a 30 day visa and leave Thailand for a weekend during my 33 day stay would I be ok? Thank you for listening.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a trip to Thailand for 33 days, involves traveling to Vietnam, and is inquiring about the necessity of a visa. Responses indicate that a 60-day visa is advisable due to the extended stay. A 30-day visa with an extension option is feasible but involves potential hassle and a fee, while airlines may require proof of visa or onward travel prior to boarding.

Get SETV.. Visa application fee is cheaper than extension fee at the immigration office inside Thailand and hustle free at the airport check-in.

I’d just get a visa prior to leaving your country. It could save you a bunch of hassle at immigration when you land. It’s not like the good ol’ days when you could over stay and pay the penalty on departure. If you choose to do the 30 day extension plan on wasting a full day. Usually you have to show up at 7:00a.m and hang around until after the immigration gets back from lunch.

Other option is Plan a boarder crossing part way through your trip but that is another wasted day and would cost you just as much as you’d pay for a 60 day visa in your home country. I suggest just getting the proper visa before leaving home and enjoy your vacation stress free 👍🏽

For some people holidays only contains of wasted days. Others see at as an experience and sight seeing tour in a foreign country.

Depending on where she goes... some immigration is in and out with the extension!

As above. At uk check in desk they will want to see a visa for 33 days in thailand before they will let you fly. A ticket to cambodia mid vacation wont be enough as you may not use it. Id call your airline to save trouble at checkin or get a 60 day visa inline. Very easy to do

I really think it would be unnecessary to get a visa before you went to Thailand. I would suggest booking an onward flight or a bus out of Thailand with the departure date around/before the 30 day mark of your trip. (You can literally spend 5$ on a ticket or a buy a cheap cheap one online.. THIS IS JUST TO SHOW AT THE AIRPORT THAT YOU WILL LEAVE THAILAND BY THE TIME THE 30DAYS IS UP). At the airport they will ask to see proof that you are leaving Thailand within 30 days... so great, yeah sure you are. THEN when you get to Thailand you should get 30day Visa Exempt on arrival..THEN go to the nearest immigration and get the 1900baht extension (they add another 30 days) as soon as you can. This will have you covered for the extra three days (I would really just shave the 3 days off your Thailand trip to save the 1900baht, but that's just me.) Then fly to Vietnam, come back to Bangkok for your flight... should be no problem to get another 30 day Visa Exempt should you need to go back into the Kingdom. (Have 20,000 baht cash, and ave your departure flight booked back to UK).

Bobbi Samui i travel to and from phuket twice a year for 12 years. As soon as i check in with a ticket with a stay of more than 30 days, they always want to see my visa. And ive travelled with 10+ different airlines in that time too so its not an airline thing

Bobbi Samui no, they are required to check at the uk checkin that you have a visa (or are exempt) for the length of your stay

Be aware that the airline you’re flying to Thailand with may want to see either a visa, or a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days before they let you check in.

If you have no recent history of multiple entries into Thailand, you should be OK with 30 days visa exempt on arrival into Thailand.

BUT....you will need to get an Extension for 30 days from Thai Immigration as you say you are staying 33 days ...1,900 Thai baht .

Both times be sure to have 20,000 Thai baht OR EQUAL in CASH, your tickets leaving Thailand upon first entry and returm tickets to your home country upon arrival from Vietnam. Plus your address of initial stay in Thailand both times.... IF asked by Thai Immigration.

Elizabeth D'Arcy I edited my reply...you must get Extension if you want to stay 33 days...or change your travel plans. NEVER PLAN TO OVERSTAY!
