Hey Guys, I have a question. I have a Thailand trip planned for Mid January to March 1st (45 Days). I don't need a visa for single entry) I would like to also take a short 3 day trip to Saigon while I am there. I think I need to apply for a multiple entry visa to do this. I have looked at the Thai eVisa (official Gov site) and the amount of info is staggering for just being able to take a side trip. They even need 6 months of bank info showing I have 200K+ in the bank for an extended amount of time. and proof or US residency, etc. I have no problems with the requirements. But I also know that people do border runs to extend their time. I am looking for opinions. Do I need to do the multiple entry visa process or would a side trip be considered like a border run? I usually just stay the entire trip in Thailand. Thanks.....Just trying to find the easiest avenue.....

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether the user needs a multiple entry visa for a short trip to Saigon during their stay in Thailand. Community members suggest that the user can enter Thailand on a visa-exempt basis and then re-enter after their trip to Vietnam without needing a multiple entry visa. They emphasize that it is important to check entry requirements for Vietnam and ensure proper planning for that side trip.

Check with your airline if you can boarding without a visa

Make sure you check if you need to get visa to enter Vietnam though. For many countries there is no exemption there.

I assume you have a USA passport.

You can visit any of the neighboring countries during your vacation in Thailand.

I used to do this all the time and use Thailand as a base for a three week trip.

All you need is your passport, a ticket back to USA and 20,000 baht cash…although no one ever asked to see my money ….

You do need a visa to visit Vietnam. Get it online from the government website.

Don’t stress and have a nice trip!

No visa needed. Getting in Thailand on visa exempt gives you 45 days each entry. In Thailand you can extend it with another 30 days for 1900 baht. You can do this proces multiple times a year (via land border 2 x) So not worry about a visa.

land border crossing is limited to 2 times EACH calendar year.

But only twice via a land border

I thought you asked this recently... BUT do as
@Lloyd *******
says... It's a simple way. AND if I remember my prior reply to you... carefully plan in advance your entry into Vietnam with its visa if required of you.

Enjoy your trip to Thailand and Vietnam.

Thanks...But I don't remember your response...I posted the same message yesterday but I never got a notification that it was approved and I never saw it post so that is why I submitted again.

just my personal suggestion. He's not going there to get a NEW Thai visa... As it takes more than 3 days to obtain. If for a border bounce... To get a NEW visa exempt entry, then that's a long way to go.

okay... I had sent a message when I saw your post in preview... With my suggestions. If you are going to Vietnam, suggest you stay 7 to 10 days+...vs QUIK 3 days. Been there twice, will return again.

Why do you suggest “7-10 days in Vietnam vs quick 3 days” ?? Does this relate to his return to Thailand, or you just want to suggest it’s worth visiting Vietnam longer for the pleasure of it ??

Come on a visa exempt entry and take your short trip to Saigon and then come in again on a visa exempt entry - no problems

Really? With USA passport, and my 45 days, + 30 day extension, I can simply leave the country, and come back on a visa exempt entry for another 30+30? I was considering education visa but this may be in my best interest.

Up until 31-Mar you will again be stamped in for 45 days visa exempt by whatever transportation route you choose
