Do I need to apply for a 60-day visa for my stay in Thailand or can I just use the visa exemption?

Dear Visa experts.

I'm Icelandic and arriving from Iceland to Thailand 11th of January and leaving to Vietnam for 2 weeks 11th of February.

This means 31 day in Thailand. 😮‍💨

(did not think this quite right 🙈)

Arriving again 24th - 27th February.

My understanding is that I need to apply for 60 days visa.

Is that Right? Because of this 1 day.

Do I apply for multi visa or single and get new visa the 24th when I arrive again?

Is it easier to get single or is it the same progress?

Or can I ask for this 1 extra day after I arrive ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an Icelandic citizen, is seeking advice on whether to apply for a 60-day visa for their stay in Thailand or if they can use the visa exemption since they will be in Thailand for 32 days. They are confused about needing a visa before arrival given their travel plans, which include flying to Vietnam. Several comments clarify that while they could use the visa exemption and potentially extend their stay upon return, getting a 60-day visa in advance might save them hassle with airlines and immigration.

, You are staying for 32 days, not 31 days. Check James's comment.

As people mentioned you CAN get an SETV before you travel, but it's not a "must". But having SETV in advance could:

- save you hassle with your airline on check-in as many air-carrier ask for an onward flight ticket within 30 days when you don't have a proper visa

- save you a bit of money as the SETV application fee at the embassy is cheaper than the extension fee at the local immigration office

- prevent you from spending half to one day (depending on the province where you stay) at the immigration office to apply for an extension during your 32-day holidays

Hello Elisabet. Yes you should get the 60 days visa, that saves you a trip to the immigration and also saves you buying a onward ticket before the 30 days.

I will answer in English so everybody understands 😉. No you not need multi entry visa, because second time you come (from Vietnam)you will get normal exemption 30 days.

As you have a passport from Iceland, you can enter Thailand Visa EXEMPT and get a 30 day STAMP on arrival.

Plus you can get a One time 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

However as you say you are going to Fly to Vietnam, make sure you depart Thailand WITHIN the 29 days of your flight arrival. The day you arrive into Thailand counts as DAY #1.

WHEN you return to Thailand from Vietnam, you will again be STAMPED in for 30 days And eligible for the 30 days extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office.

Therefore, there's NO need to obtain a Thai Visa before you fly to Thailand.

Just have proof of your flight departing Thailand within the 30 days you First arrive into Thailand to show your airline when you check-in for your flight to Thailand..if ASKED.
