Hi all, apologies if this has been posted but I couldn't find the answer

We are arriving to Thailand in November with a view to travel around until mid January. I know we can get a 30 day entry visa but was looking at getting the 60 day tourist visa before we leave, so we only need 1 border run. Do I have to have a return flight as we are open to where we return from so we can arrange this while we are out there.

Sorry if this waffles on and hope it makes sense. thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice regarding visa requirements for their upcoming travel to Thailand, specifically asking if a return flight is necessary for obtaining a 60-day tourist visa. Responses indicate that while it's advisable to have proof of onward travel when applying for a tourist visa, it doesn't necessarily need to be a return flight. Options for extending stays beyond the initial visa duration are also discussed.

Thanks. I'm just starting the application so within the time frame but was worried it would be rejected with no return ticket. Thanks

we got our TV and just wrote out an itinerary when applying stating we would leave Thailand by day 60 and purchase a bus ticket to Cambodia once in Thailand.

It was approved no problem

You’ll be able to extend your TV once for thirty days giving you 89 days in country

Apply for the tourist visa here

DO NOT apply until you are within 90 days of your arrival date. You can extend this once at an immigration office in Thailand for another 30 days

If you apply for a Tourist Visa they will want to see an onward flight (doesn’t have to be a return) out of Thailand and probably within the 60 days validity of the visa.

If you travel without a visa you are likely to be asked by the airline at check-in for proof you are leaving Thailand within 30 days. Again, doesn’t have to be a return flight just travel out of Thailand. You are unlikely to be asked for proof by Thai immigration.

You don't give dates so it's impossible to give you an exact answer. But you can either get the 30 day visa exempt (not a visa) and apply for a 30 day extension in Thailand.

Or apply for the 60 day tourist visa before you travel to Thailand and then apply for a 30 day extension in Thailand.

Option 1 gives you 60 days in Thailand and option 2 gives you 90 days in Thailand.
