Can my mother apply for a Non-O visa in Thailand using an income declaration from the French embassy?

Hi everyone,

After my father’s passing, my 56-year-old mother wants to move to Thailand to be closer to me. I’m currently living in Thailand on a DTV visa, but she doesn’t have the 800,000 baht required for the retirement visa. Our French embassy still issues income declarations, but they’re solely based on honor without any verification.

If she comes to Thailand without a visa, can we use the French embassy’s income declaration for her initial O visa application? By the end of the first year, she will have the 12 monthly payments of 65,000 baht required for renewal.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user's mother wishes to move to Thailand but lacks the funds for a retirement visa. They inquire if an income declaration from the French embassy can serve for her Non-O visa application. Community responses suggest that if the embassy provides a notarized income affidavit, it may be acceptable for obtaining the Non-O visa and subsequent extension. Additionally, exploring other visa options as a dependent might also be beneficial.

Check once if she can get a different visa type as a dependant of you. For a wife you also do not need the full deposit.

, OP is talking about his mother. DTV dependent is not available to a parent, it's only for a spouse and children.

It depends on the embassy whether they require applicants for DTV dependent to have financial proof for each.

I understood, but then are sure also special rules for the mother.

If your embassy here in Bangkok issues the 'affidavit of income from abroad' notary letter she can indeed use it at the immigration office to get both the Non-O visa and a year extension after that.

Shouldn't have a problem

Hi,

Thank you for your response. The affidavit issued by the French embassy is just a simple declaration on honor without any verification. I’ve seen that it has been rejected by some immigration offices, so I have some doubts.

But if we try this option, does that mean we would need to make an appointment in Vientiane, for example, to apply for the 90-day non-O visa? Then, would we process the extension of the non-O visa for the first year in Thailand solely using the affidavit? Any other options you’d recommend for the initial 90-day visa and the first one-year extension? Considering that afterward, she’ll be able to provide a bank statement showing monthly deposits exceeding 65,000 baht for her future renewals.

I don’t know where you live but in Pattaya they accept the affidavit from the French embassy only if this document is certified by the foreign affairs of Thailand (office in Pattaya central festival)

Thank you for your response. I’m in Ayutthaya. How can the Foreign Affairs of Thailand validate a declaration on honor from the French Embassy ? I’m having trouble understanding that.

They check with your tax notice (Avis d’imposition Français)

This is outside the scope of specific Thai Visa/Thai immigration advice, but pertains directly to obtaining a Non-O based on Embassy-certified Affidavit of Income:

In my opinion, you would take that « Déclaration de revenus (pour le visa/permis de séjour en Thaïlande) » that the French Embassy in Bangkok just certified and further do a legalisation of that Déclaration, which, of course, would complete the legalisation at Thailand MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs)....

, there is no "make an appt at Vientiane" anymore (not after Dec 20th because they go to the eVisa online system.

You either get her the 90 day Non-O online thru the eVisa system from the thai consulate in France before she comes here

OR

bring her in free stamp entry and go to the immigration office where you stay and apply first for the 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht, and then 2 months later the year extension for 1900baht

Thank you for your response. If the affidavit is rejected, is there another option for her ?

Check with your Immigration Office if they accept the French Embassy income affidavit sooner rather than later
