What should we do if the Thai embassy requires bank statements we cannot provide for our Non-OA retirement visa application?

Advice Required.

We are a married Australian couple currently in France on a year, long stay visa. We recently applied for our Non A-O retirement visa. We have lived previously in Thailand on the same visa.

Yesterday we attended the Thai embassy in Paris to provide our passports. Received an email for extra information,

The want bank statements providing evidence of 24000 euro in my name only? We have a french bank account but use it only for week to week expenses no savings.

We have our main bank accounts in Australia, can meet the 800k baht and have a significant monthly income due to rent from commercial properties. All our bank accounts are in joint names as we have been married 38 years.

Bit concerned if they don't except our Aussie bank statements. Any advice appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian couple currently in France is facing a challenge with their Non-OA retirement visa application at the Thai embassy. They have been asked to provide bank statements showing 24000 euros in one account, but they primarily use their French account for expenses and hold significant savings in joint accounts in Australia. They have previously lived in Thailand under the same visa and are concerned whether their Australian bank statements will be accepted. The community suggests several alternatives, including applying for a single entry Non-O visa based on being over 50, opening a Thai bank account with the required funds, or proceeding as trailing spouses. There are concerns about the specific requirements varying by consulate and the challenges posed by the Paris embassy's policies.

She won't be able to get a Non-OA visa then, but she might be able to get a Non-O.

Just checked the Thai embassy site in Paris regarding tourist visas they now require due to covid19, 2000 euro per person in a bank for 3 months prior to applying, this is a bloody nightmare.
Gregor **********
@Warren-Anja ***********
and the 90-days Non-Imm-O visa does require 5000.- Euros in a fench bank account for 3 months, doesn't it ? It is a nightmare, I agree

certainly is

That's dreadful. At the risk of sounding like a brown-noser, I suggest the OTHER T.I.T. acronym: trust in Tod. Self deprecation notwithstanding, neither I nor any of my friends who have sought advice here have been steered wrong. See what wizened widom will get you. Good luck!

Boy you sure picked a piss poor thai consulate to deal with. The thai consulate in Paris is know all over the EU as being a one way, difficult consulate to deal with.

I'd say take the advice of previous posters and BOTH you and your wife apply for 90 day Non-O visas based on being over 50 (meet what ever requirements they have to get them). Come here, get stamped in for 90 days, get the 800K baht in your account here and in there for 2 months, then you apply for a year extension based on being over 50 (retirement) and you wife applies for a year extension based on being the trailing spouse of someone on a retirement extension.
Warren-Anja ************

@Tod ********
thank you. Seems like that way to proceed.

I have paid for my Non A-0 which looks like we will lose. Would I have to reapply for the 90 day, based on people's dealing the the Paris embassy.
Tod *********
@Warren-Anja ***********
Then just have your wife apply for the 90 day non-O visa based on marriage to you (they should issue it to her because you have an O-A)

You'd have to have the year insurance to get in (both 40k/400k health and 100K USD covid) but if your wife only got the 90 day non-O she'd only need 100K USD in covid insurance)

I doubt they'd refund you but that's between you and them. Sorry I didn't know you were so far along in the process.

thanks Tod, both have the appropriate insurance, will contact them tomorrow and see how we go, much appreciated all the great advice. Will let you know.

I'm going to shut this post down (for the night).

1. Different consulates have different requirements. The Thai consulate of France is in French, and I can't read French, and I don't know what that consulate requires.

2. MOST consulates require the following for a Non-OA visa:

- To be a citizen or a long-term resident

- To have 800K THB in a local bank account in local currency

- Health insurance: Outpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 40,000 THB, and Inpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 400,000 THB

3. Non-OA visas may or may not allow a trailing spouse visa ("Non-O visa based on being a dependent to a foreigner").

4. IF a Non-OA visa is not possible, then here are the following options to enter Thailand:

A. A Non-O visa based on being over 50. Benefits:

- No medical insurance requirements (for most consulates)

- Allows ONE entry for 90 days

- No income/ savings requirements.

- Allows one person to get a Non-O visa based on being a trailing spouse. There is NO financial requirements for a Non-O visa based on being a trailing spouse.

B. A visa exempt:

- No medical insurance requirements

- Allows entry for 30 days (starting September 30th)

- Can allow a purchase of an in-country Non-O visa based on retirement inside Thailand.

C. Purchasing a Non-O Visa Based on Retirement Inside Thailand

- No medical insurance requirements

- Require 800K THB in a Thai bank account FOR EACH PERSON

- Allows a one year extension of stay based on retirement.

5. All entries require COVID-19 medical insurance and quarantine, which is outside the scope of this group.

6. For the Non-O Visa Based on being a trailing spouse, you WILL NEED a marriage certificate, and it needs to be legal.

7. AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT HIJACK POSTS. IF YOUR QUESTION IS NOT RELATED, MAKE YOUR OWN POSTS!

And please, contact your local consulate for information what they want. This is the Thai Consulate of Paris website, and I can not read French.

The answers to some of the

questions may be there.

Thank you.

When you only do do a Single entry 3 month non-O you will needuch less money and you can extend when you are in Thailand at the immigration
Benjamin ******
@Siggi *******
To extend a Non-O visa at immigration, they will EACH need the 800K THB in a Thai bank, seasoned for two months (unless one enters on a trailing spouse).
Dak ******
@Benjamin *****
does the trailing spouse have to be over 50 as well?
Benjamin ******
@Dak *****
No, they have to be legally married though.
Siggi ********
@Benjamin *****
i try to solve them the problem for having
*****
Euro on a account in France what they obviously don't have. And they have a Thai Bank account already so they can use this for the non-O in France already, only need to make sure that there is the money embassy wants. Or they can transfer 800.000 baht to this account and apply for a non-O 1 year visa if this is avaible in france
Warren-Anja ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Siggi *******
how does a trailing spouse work, if I was to deposit 800k into my thai bank, what are my wife's options.
Siggi ********
@Warren-Anja ***********
she can go as your dependent as you will have a valid visa, same like kids
Warren-Anja ************
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Siggi *******
OK, legally married, will they require marriage certificate.
Benjamin ******
@Warren-Anja ***********
Yes, you need a valid marriage certificate to be considered married in Thailand.
Benjamin ******
@Warren-Anja ***********
if you enter on a non-o visa based on being over 50 (or a non-oa visa), the spouse can get a non-o visa visa based on being a trailing spouse. There is no financial requirement to get that visa.
Benjamin ******
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Different Thai consulates have different policies. What the Thai consulate policy is for Savannkhet, Lao, will not apply for France (for example). Thank you.
Benjamin ******
IF, for whatever reason, they do not accept the bank account from Aus, you can get a single entry Non-O visa based on being over 50, and you can enter for three months. During the three months you can get a one year extension of stay based on retirement.

I’d avoid the OA as then you also need the Thai health insurance while on the O it’s not needed. Maybe things have changed….

Warren-Anja Stephensen. Just keep in mind that the in-country extension requires 800,000 baht each in a Thai bank account. You cannot use overseas funds

Are you officially a permanent resident of France? If this is the case the embassy there should accept money held in a French bank account.

yes after 3 months you get residency.

Warren-Anja Stephensen. In that case use the funds held in the French bank account, as I don't think they would allow funds held in a foreign account.

GENERALLY, it shouldn't matter to get a Non-OA visa, you'll need the money in the local bank account. Sadly, the Thai consulate in France is written in Thai and French, so I can't confirm what they want.

I'm surprised the Thai Embassy in France are processing your Non-OA visa. But...

As one of the requirements to get a Non-OA visa, you must show 800K THB in local currency in a local bank. It looks like 24K Euros is 800K THB, per person.

I don't think anyone can give any advice to you, sadly, because Thai consulates normally do not issue the Non-OA visa for passport holders outside of their passport country 😮
