Advice needed. I am thinking of bringing my elderly (86) mother to live with me in Thailand. I am currently on non O extension based on over 50 and retired and living in Mahasarakham.

Does she need a visa of her own or can she piggyback mine as she will be dependent on me,

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is considering bringing their elderly mother (86 years old) to live with them in Thailand on a Non-O extension due to retirement. Responses indicate that the mother will need her own Non-O visa as a dependent, which must be obtained from outside Thailand. Responses suggest contacting the local immigration office in Mahasarakham for further assistance and detail that while the mother can apply for a year extension based on dependency, she cannot initially get the visa while in Thailand.

while she MIGHT be able to get a year extension based on being the family member of a person on a "retirement extension" what she can't do here inside the country is get the initial Non-O 90 day visa to then get the extension. You'd have to get that visa in her country before she wings here way here.

Pre-emptive warning for members: Please stay on topic about HOW to get the poster's mother inside Thailand. Asking about insurance, if she likes the weather, or other questions have nothing to do with Thai visas or the poster's questions. I'll be deleting those comments without warning. Thank you.

She'll need a visa of her own, your mother's not Thai, so surely 90 Non O and then retirement extension if having the pension income or open a Thai account for 800,000bt deposited.

Not enough info on the website ref finances, but fair play if he can give it a go.

@Mike *******
This extension of stay does not require any proof of finances ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

New one on me mate, any links etc to verify that?

@Mike *******
yes there is. Bangkok Immigration website has some information about the requirements for the one year extension of stay for this extension of stay.

It'll be number 20 on the list. However, I do not know if all immigration offices offer this extension of stay, or what the requirements would be.

I believe she can be a trailing parent. She can get a Non-O visa based on being a trailing parent, and then get a one year extension of stay based on being a trailing parent to a foreigner , and therefore the 800K THB is not required.

I would say yes, but she would need to get the Non-O visa based on being a dependent outside of Thailand, and I don't know if the consulate where she lives sell it.

The immigration office would also have to be willing to issue the one year extension of stay based on being a dependent of a foreigner temporarily living in Thailand. You can contact the Mahasarakham immigration office at
