In the past I've always used the notarized verifying montly income letter from the US Embassy. Now I live full time in Loei and for verifying income I think I need an official statement from my Bangkok Bank account showing in excess of 800,000 baht transferred into Thailand during the past 12 months but not necessary to have 800,000 currently in that account, just income during the year. Is that correct? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on income verification for a Non-Immigrant O visa based on retirement, wishing to use a bank statement from Bangkok Bank to show a history of depositing over 800,000 baht transferred into Thailand over the past year. Comments discuss different methods of meeting the financial requirement, including bank savings, monthly income, and the validity of income affidavits from foreign embassies. There is uncertainty surrounding the availability of income letters from embassies following announcements of their discontinuation.

Interesting that 12th December is the date quoted as when the UK embassy stop issuing the income letter, and I do believe this was the official announcement? Why then I wonder did I get this email from them ?

British Embassy Bangkok to stop Certification of Income Letters

From 1 January 2019, the British Embassy Bangkok will no longer be providing British Nationals with letters confirming their income.

7:14am, 8 October 2018: First published.

You’re getting this email because you subscribed to ‘Thailand’ updates on GOV.UK.

Cheers Robert, So as long as the application lands on their desk before or on the 12th they will still issue...that clears that up. Thanks.

As the vice consul explained, it take about 10 working days to put a stamp on a paper and they want all papers stamped before the 1 of Jan. So you can apply till 12 Dec.

To be clear, there are no changes for the US Emb-BKK re: issuing the income affidavit to date. Unofficial sources have stated that it is under review. Also, as usual there’s a delayed implementation date and the letter is good for 6-months.

There are no changes of rules announcent by Immigration.

Thank you for your reply. I've been getting mixed advice. I am told now that since the affidavit will not be forthcoming from UK, and even the US will follow suit, that I need to show via my Thai bank statement that yes there was more than an average of 65,000 baht deposited into the Thai account during the previous year. That will suffice. I hope so, as I don't want to keep so much money in a dead account. Thanks.

I keep that amount of money in my Thai. It’s doing as much good there as it would in a USA account but more importantly it serves as an emergency fund readily available in Thailand.

So you go for the Extension of Stay, there are three ways to meet the fincancial requirement: 1) Minimum of 800.000 Thb in a Thai bank account 3 months prior the application date, with letter of the bank. 2) minimum monthly income of 65.000 Thb, with affidavit from Embassy. 3) a Combination of 1 and 2 where the total is not less than 800.000 Thb.

I meant any bank in Thailand. After Dec 12, the UK embassy will no longer issue the Certificate of Income.
Robert *******
At the moment it can still come into any bank, your Embassy gives you the Certificate of Income.

I'm not the expert, but it MUST be into Thai Bank account. The whole purpose is to make sure this money is coming into Thailand. My understanding anyway.

Hi does the monthly income have to be going into a Thai bank account or can it just be shown going into an overseas account and a letter to verify it

I've had this Non Im O visa for retirement for 14 years. Just now will use Loei instead of Bangkok, and also for first time no Bangkok address. So I hope just the bank statement from here is enough verifying the income, and no more $50 trip to US Embassy for that letter. :)

Do you go to apply for an Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age or for an Extension of Stay based on being over 50 years of age?
