Hi everyone,

After my father’s passing, my 56-year-old mother wants to move to Thailand to be closer to me. I’m currently living in Thailand on a DTV visa, but she doesn’t have the 800,000 baht required for the retirement visa. Our French embassy still issues income declarations, but they’re solely based on honor without any verification.

If she comes to Thailand without a visa, can we use the French embassy’s income declaration for her initial O visa application? By the end of the first year, she will have the 12 monthly payments of 65,000 baht required for renewal.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user asks about their mother's potential relocation to Thailand after their father's passing. Currently on a DTV visa in Thailand, the user's mother lacks the 800,000 baht necessary for a retirement visa. She might rely on the French embassy's income declaration, which is based on honor without verification. The inquiry involves whether this declaration can be used for her initial O visa application upon her arrival in Thailand without a visa, and if she will meet the financial requirements by the end of the year. Responses suggest checking with the local immigration office, utilizing a tourist visa initially, or ensuring proper documentation of her income before applying.

You can find that immigration offices ask you to also show them what you supplied to the embassy to get the income affidavit/certificate so you can't wing that. However if your mother can show she has an income of 65k baht per month equivalent in France that should be fine

Let her come on a tourist visa or visa exempt entry, then get an agency to organise her retirement visa. You will save yourself a lot of hassle and stress

are good if you’re in the Chonburi area.

You might want to check with the immigration office you'll be using. Many immigration offices will not accept monthly transfers if the person's embassy does income verification.
