Can my boyfriend do a border run from Thailand to Myanmar after ending his job without facing issues on re-entry?

Hi everyone, would be awesome if someone could help me: my boyfriend ended his employment with a thai company a couple of days ago. And his first non immigrant B visa (the one for 3 months before you get the 1year one) runs out soon. As he is South Korean (asean group member) he gets 3months visa exemption with every entry anyway.

So would it be ok to do a border run to Andaman Club, Myanmar, with a letter from his former employer stating that he stopped working in Thailand and just comes back for holiday? Or might he get in trouble when he comes back across the border to Thailand? Would it be wiser to go to Penang to get a propper Tourist Visa before coming back?

And we read that the new law about work permits says that once you stop working you have 15 days to let the goverment know about it and it said you could do it online. But I could not find where to do that... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question is about a South Korean national's visa options after ending employment in Thailand. His current Non-Immigrant B visa is expiring, and he is considering a border run to Myanmar. Responses indicate he should cancel his work permit and can return to Thailand on a visa exemption without problems, although flying out might be safer for his re-entry. There is also discussion about the legitimacy of using two different passports for visa runs and the requirement of adhering to local laws regarding work permit cancellations.

He has 2 passports and has to make this visa run as cheap as possible. Could he just cross a land border with the passport with the old non immigrant b visa and come back with his other passport? The other passport has his other last name and different nationality.

You cannot change your passport on Land border crossing. You need to fly out/in to change your passport.

NO

I don't mean to be anal, but S. Korea isn't in ASEAN.

The ASEAN +6 is purely a trade agreement, the bilateral visa waiver agreement is totally separate to that.

They are in the ASEAN +6 and they do have a bilateral treaty.

Korean... no work permit yet... fly out (cancel non-B as you exit), fly back in. No problems, no worry. 90-day entry on arrival. BKK is better than DMK. Get a cheap flight to KUL, SIN or HKG.

I don't think South Koreans can border bounce at that crossing for a 90 day visa exempt entry stamp.

We are in Koh Tao. We were thinking he should go to Andaman Club as we usually do here on the island. But someone else commented earlier that this is not an option anymore, only to re enter on a valid visa. I can not see tha comment anymore though

I know ranong is an option but, far for you. Hopefully someone local will chime in with viable options. Good luck!!

No problem to leave before his non-b expires and return on exempt entry. But he should cancel work permit with local labour office.

I can't comment on borders from other regions but I'm sure others can.

From Chiang Mai, Mai Sai border is a breeze. Bear in mind only 2 land crossing visa exempt entries are permitted per calendar year.

Where are you?

I assume it is not possible to extend his current visa in Samui?

@Ellie ******
yeah we thought so too. Thank you

you cannot extend current admitted stay from non-b without proper papers. You cannot extend it with tourist reason at all.
