Hi everyone, my girlfriend (kiwi citizen) is working in thailand and have a work permit (just renewed)

She is about to reach the end of her last stamp on her multiple entry Non b.

Her company said that they are going to transfer her work permit to the main company as she's now on a sub company.

They v asked her to do a burma bounce and come back on a 30 day exemption while they process it.

My question is, will immigration let her come back in just like that on an exemption? does she need some paperwork to prove the process ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user asks about the process for their girlfriend, a Kiwi citizen working in Thailand, regarding her return after a border run (Burma bounce) on a 30-day visa exemption. The immigration stance on her return and required paperwork is discussed, with mixed insights on the difficulty of transitioning her work permit during this process.

If she leaves on the border she will need a letter of termination of work permit. Return is easy in a 30 day but maybe stay one night Myanmar side.

you can not leave to stay one night in Myanmar as you only get a day pass. If you can not enter Thailand the Thai Immigration will not allow you to stamp out and leave towards Myanmar.

The company is moving her inside the company and adding a second work place, second job tittle and second job description into her Work Permit. Nice but have absolute nothing to do with her legal stay and using a Non Immigrant B visa. If she can not use this visa just because she past the Valid Until date she has three options:

Visit local Immigration Office and apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay.

OR

Visit with a lot of documents a Thai Consulate to apply or a new Non Immigrant B visa

OR

Do as advised, stop working, cancel work permit and make a border run for the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry and enjoy your holidays

Well visa B is connected to the companies who employ you. Normal written by the imi officer on Top.... If nothing is mentioned their may be easier

always is isnt it ? i m just wondering if that sounds dodgy or if it s a normal process and if there is any paperwork that would be needed and make the process easier.

Is she no extension or direct entry from the visa? How they can proceed depends on that. If she is not on extension yet, maybe difficult to change inside country, but still it's worth to check because she is changing between related companies. If she is on extension, since both emplyers are related, in theory, not difficult to change the WP and reason for extension inside country.

Better to check Surathani immigration office and Ministry of Labor in there if they can let you do in-country changing.

What city is she in? I know some areas can convert a visa exempt to a Non-B, and some can't.

For her being allowed back into Thailand on a visa exempt, yes, she will be allowed to return. I highly recommend the Kanchanburi/ Myanmar border.

Koh tao, but it i dont see why immigration would give a visa exempt if you are on a work permit ? it sounds a little dodgy tom me so i wanted to check

I think nobody can really answer that, but since it's not allowed to work on a 30 day exempt, proving that you actually "work", might not help the case.
