Hello! I have a question regarding the NON-B visa and the amnesty extension.

My boyfriend is looking to resign from his current job, which would mean his work permit and visa would be cancelled and typically would mean it's time to leave the country to sort out something else.

He is from Myanmar.

1. Since there are currently no flights and since his current visa would normally expire after 26 March, we assume he would be covered until 31 July under the amnesty extension.

2. We have seen some reports stating that Myanmar (and other neighboring ASEAN countries) citizens are allowed to stay in Thailand until a) borders open and b) until 30 November. We are planning to call the Myanmar embassy/Thai immigration to verify this.

Can you please provide some advice or insight into what would currently happen if he resigns and his current NON-B visa and work permit are cancelled?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on the implications of their boyfriend resigning from a job while on a NON-B visa, particularly in light of the current amnesty extension in Thailand. They mention the boyfriend's visa would typically expire on March 26, but they believe he is covered until July 31 due to amnesty. Comments clarify that there are different rules for various visa types and that he could stay under amnesty until the end of July after resigning.

you're confusing two separate visa/extension types. The people who can stay until November are Cambodian, Lao and Burmese laborers who have type LA visas (labor approved).

If your b/f is on a Non-B extension, he goes and cancels his work permit, takes that receipt and a letter from his employer stating he stops working on xxx date, cancels his extension and then he would be qualified to stay on the blanket amnesty until no longer than July 31st.
