Can I stay in Thailand after my work permit is cancelled by leaving the country and returning on a visa exemption?

Hi, need some advice on the following situation: my work permit will be cancelled on the 1st October. I was told by employer that if I want to keep staying in Thailand I just need to fly out the country before that date and return on a regular visa exemption 60 stamp. Is that so? Or maybe I can simply go for a border run to Cambodia? Not sure what is the optimal course of action here. Thank you ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on staying in Thailand after their work permit is cancelled on October 1st. One comment clarifies that they need to cancel their extension of stay based on work before leaving. Regardless, they must exit the country as their permission to stay ends with their work. They can return on a 60-day visa exemption or from a border run, but working in Thailand after returning would be illegal.

You can do a border run and get a 60 day exemption, but it will be illegal to work in Thailand.

If you're on an extension of stay based on work (the stamp in your passport says "extension of stay" then you also need to cancel your extension before you leave. But your permission to stay in Thailand ends the same time that your work ends, regardless of if your extension is cancelled or not. So you will need to leave the country and can return however you like.

unless you can arrange another work permit before Oct 1

agree, finding a job here is unlikely.

Iโ€™m looking at Thai language schools for ED visa, but they also require leaving the country and coming back.

Appreciate the feedback

but then you will probably have to cancel an extension of stay and get a new non-b via the new employer which requires them both working together.

Theoretically possible, but incredibly difficult to coordinate between immigration and both employers, and if it's in a different province 2 different immigration offices.
