Can I Let My Non-B Visa Expire and Get a Tourist Visa Instead?

Hi,

If someone has a non B visa and work permit and it expires at the end of March, and they leave the country to then get a 30 day tourist visa to travel around Thailand before returning to England in April, do they need to go to Chaeng Wattana or can they just run the non B visa out and get a tourist visa? The reason why I ask is because I thought that if I was to just leave Thailand, I would have to cancel my visa at Chaeng Wattana.

So what is the situation if the visa is going to run out anyway?

Thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the scenario of allowing a Non-B visa and work permit to expire while traveling on a 30-day tourist visa in Thailand. Community members provided insights on the need to cancel the work permit at the immigration office if the work visa is extended based on legal work. However, if simply leaving the country as the visa runs out, some suggest it's possible to not cancel the visa, while others emphasized the importance of understanding the type of visa and legal stay involved.

if someone is in Thailand and we have no idea on which legal stay he is there is no answer possible.

Sorry, but this page is for advice not for please tell me all the possibilities what and how with a visa and a work permit and i will filter something out that fits my agenda the best.

Find out what kind of stay your friend has, find out the correct days and his plans of action, after that you can ask again.

Good luck to your friend. Commenting closed for tonight.

If a foreigner is on extension based on working legally (which applied at local immigration office), needs to go to Immigration office and cancel extension along with WP.

If (s)he is on entry direct from Non_B itself (not apply immigration office after that), just let it run and just leave. Entry on visa cannot be canceled. You just cancel WP.

IF (s)he wouldn't come back Thailand after 1month travel, just let it go, (s)he wouldn't have a chance to get a problem.

1. Is your friend on the first 90 days of the Non B for business...or teacher?

And if your friend only needs an added month or so...do not run risk of a denied tourist visa. Just do a simple border run which will get you 30 days exempt visa on reentry. This can be extended 30 days at Thai Immigrations 1,900 Thai baht.

That is important to know. Robert is very knowledgeable of all this ...that is why I have asked him to reply.

Thank you for your patience.
