hey guys, I need some advice for a friend.

his 1-year non-b ended one week ago, but his latest entry stamp is valid untill end of july. the stamp has the note "non-b" in it. so is he ok right now or should he have gone to get a extension for his visa at the expiry date?

and we want to do a border run next week to Cambodia because his work permint is expiring at the beginning of july. are we safe to do this? we're german and want to enter the country on visa exempt (our first one) and he got a cancellation letter from his employer

thank you so much for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around a friend's expired Non-B visa and the implications for a planned border run to Cambodia. The key points are the distinction between having a valid entry stamp versus a visa, with the friend needing to cancel their work permit. While they have a visa exempt status for 30 days after crossing into Cambodia, there's confusion over their previous visa status and the necessity of documentation when applying for a new Non-B visa and work permit in the future.

Thanks! Sabri Na was asking on my behalf. And we already travelled to the Cambodian border, because I didn't want to risk an overstay (by just staying in Thailand after the wp expired).

1. My multiple entry Non-B visa ended on 15 June. I usually did the 90 day reports at the immigration. But I didn't do the last one, because I made a trip to Vietnam before the report date. This last entry stamp (with the non-b-note) was valid til 28 July.

2. But now I got a visa exempt at the Cambodian Border (30 days).

3. My work permit ends on Monday (2 July). I will go the Ministry of Labour on Monday to cancel the work permit and ask for a cancellation form (I was told this is important).

Well, there was a lot of discussing at the border after my departure stamp, so I am a little confused, but finally I got the visa exempt. Some say, there should be a cancellation stamp regarding the former visa or extension or whatever; some say, it is not necessary. I try to dno everything correctly because I want to apply for a new Non-B & WP soon. In your opinion, do you think everything should be alright, and I just return the wp on Monday? Or should I do anything else?

Thanks, and sry for the extended explanation - I am not sure what's important to know ;)

You did a lot of effort to get the Work Permit and an Extension of Stay. You must cancel both at end of contract as you signed when receiving these papers. The border check point can not cancel anything, this only can be done at the office where you applied for the the Work Permit and Extension of Stay. Now your up in the hands of the Immigration Officer in your area when you visit him/her to cancel the Extension of Stay.

They somehow told me at the border, they would do the cancellation for me, but I doubt that, too. There was a lot of confusin ... So I go to the Ministry of Labour, and afterwards to the immigration, at the latest on Monday (last day of employment), and make sure the extension is cancelled? Or how messed up is everything? My visa exempt will be still valid, won't it? ;-)

Karsten Lorek. You must cancel your WP and your Extension of Stay at last day of employment before you decide to travel abroad. IF you just leave and try to get a Visa Exempt Entry you walk into problems, worst part is that when Immigration notify you did not cancel the Extension of Stay they could fine you for overstay from last day of work till the day you visit Immigration.

And this topic highlights the need to use correct terminology. The O/P referred to their friend being on a year long multi-entry Non-B visa BUT it turns out they're on a year long extension of stay based on employment.

When did/does he stop work ?

he will stop working with the end of his wp in a few days

is he on a year-long, multi-entry Non-B visa (where he leaves the country every 90 days) OR is he on a yearly extension of stay where he does a 90 day report at the immigration office?

ah ok sorry for this, the situation was a bit confusing :-/

@Sabri ***
IF he was doing 90 day reports he wasn't on ANY visa, :/ He was on an extension of stay :(

he was on a year long, multi-entry non-b and did his 90 day reports at the immigration office. the non-b ended last week

The expiry date of the visa is only to enter the country, you can enter just before or even on the Enter before/valid until date and get the 90 days Admitted to Stay. He has to cancel his work permit. You can do the border run next week, but if he still has 30 days of more left on his stay, he does not need this new Visa Exempt Stamp. He can wait till end of July and do a border run then.
