Hi everyone, I am currently on a Non-B, single-entry visa. I am planning a trip to Malaysia (arriving by land/car and leaving by air/plane). I am curious about what I need to do to come back to Thailand with a valid visa?

My work will be finished at that time (but my Non-B visa lasts until the 31st of October) so I am wondering if I can just come back with an automatic UK tourist visa on return back to Thailand?

Any help is much apprciate!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Non-B, single-entry visa and is planning a trip to Malaysia, seeking advice on returning to Thailand with a valid visa since their work will end before their visa expiry date. Comments provide insights regarding options, such as obtaining a re-entry permit, entering Thailand on a visa exemption with a potential 30 or 45-day stay depending on entry date, and the requirement to cancel their work permit if their work ends.

Regarding your second question, yes, you could come back in Thailand and get a visa exemption stamp (not a "tourist visa") when entering. If you enter on or after October 1st, you would get 45 days, and if you enter before that, 30 days. You can extend that for another 30 days for 1,900฿ at immigration in Thailand.

You could also apply for a Single-Entry Tourist visa at an embassy, which would give you 60 days and the possibility to extend another 30 days. However, you're allowed two VE stamps per calendar year by land, and since it's almost 2023, might as well use up your allowed VE stamps instead.

If you have an extension of stay, and are doing regular 90 day reports then you are not on the original visa, you are on an extension of stay for the reason of work. The day your work has formally stopped you must leave Thailand by the end of that day or find another way to stay in the country. On the other hand, if you are on your original visa (which is doubtful) then you can stay in Thailand till the validity of the visa expires. So, how long have you been working in Thailand? If more than 90 days then you are on an extension. And NEVER EVER hand your visa or work permit over to be held by someone, school, business. They are yours and must be with you.

Do you have a visa or are you on an extension of stay? I suspect the latter and the two are treated differently. If you are on an extension of stay that ends the day you stop working. You have to go and cancel your work permit AND your extension of stay on the day you stop working. You then have to find another means of being in Thailand be that a border bounce or whatever. If you have already stopped work you are technically on overstay.

If you do have an actual visa, as opposed to an extension of stay, you can stay until the visa expires but still need to cancel your work permit.

2 options. either get a re-entry permit and when you come back you will be stamped in until 31 Oct. OR just leave and enter on a normal visa exempt entry.

Could OP actually get a re-entry permit for their Non-Immigrant B visa, even though their employment ended before leaving?
Robert *******
@Keven ***
OP does not have a visa but an Extension of Stay which she like to call a visa.

a Visa can not be cancelled, an Extension of Stay needs to be cancelled.

And that is why it is important to understand what is stamped in your passport to give correct advice without seeing the passport.

If someone with a Non-Immigrant B visa (not an extension of stay), completed his contract and the employment was over, could he get a re-entry permit and come back in Thailand on the remaining portion of the Non-Immigrant B visa?

yes, he can use that re-entry permit to come back and get the same date as the Admitted until date stamped in his passport.

so you have a week to sort out the letter and cancellations and then leave no later than 30 September

My last day of work will be the 30th September (next Friday)

If you truly have a VISA, then no. However if you have an extension then yes. Maybe you could post a photo of your visa ?

ok, when was your last day of work ? you need to get a letter stating this from your employer and cancel both your work permit and extension of stay (labour and immigration), you can then either leave on your last day or apply for a 7 day get out of dodge failed extension.

sounds like you have an extension, not a visa - totally different

I don't currently have it to hand (at work), but I believe I had my 90-day check-up recently which is valid until November time. Would this be the reason for a cancellation meeting?

@Lloyd *******
the company I work for is saying I would have to arrange a visa cancellation meeting at the immigration office. Is this correct?

I see, this makes a lot of sense. Think this may be the case. Thanks again Lloyd!

Though you would need to cancel your work permit
