Can I use my mother's bank details to support my DTV re-entry into Thailand?

Aug 10, 2025
2 days ago
Hello, I am a bit nervous because I will re enter Thailand on the DTV for the 2nd time. I don't have the original amount in my bank account. Would I be able to show my mums bank details and a letter from her that guarantees financial support if necessary? I have the money but it's mostly invested. I dont want to move all my funds for the purpose of re entry into Thailand. Or do you think it's enough to show the same documents I applief for with 8 months ago?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user expresses anxiety about their return to Thailand on a DTV visa for the second time, mentioning a lack of the required 500k THB in their bank account. They ask if it's acceptable to present their mother's bank details and a letter of financial support instead. Commenters suggest it is unlikely they will be asked to show funds upon entry, stating that having some cash on hand (20,000 THB or equivalent) might be sufficient. Multiple users share their experiences of successfully re-entering Thailand without being questioned about their finances, indicating that fear of scrutiny may be overstated. The discussion also branches into general advice regarding immigration procedures and concerns about financial requirements.

They don't ask for anything. Just print out the visa and show them.

Its multiple entry.

Just be prepared to answer questions like:.

- planned length of stay

- where you will be staying

- 20,000 baht or the equivalent in cash
Chris *********
Who said anything about needing anything ? Geeze help us
Luit *****************
@Chris ********
You only need to comply with visa requirements, nothing more, nothing less. The requirements were clearly stated during application.
Elías ********
I have exited and re entered many times during the year. Of course I have the money 🤷🏻 untouched, but they have ever asked me anything. Remote worker, not soft power, if that matter.
Andi ***********
No need to be nervous, 100s of DTVERS depart/enter daily overwhelming majority face no question. If you don't have 500k readily accessible in the unlikely event of it being asked for, having 20K in cash along with accommodation booked will go a long way to ensure entry. I've never been asked in 5 entries.
Luit *****************
@Andi **********
The fact you did not get asked does not mean anything at all. Checking everyone at the border is just unworkable. That means chances are low you will get checked, but does not mean requirements are not in place anymore. Requirements for DTV are simple, and one of them is 500k, so that might be checked at any time by Thai immigration, but will be unlikely when entering the country.
Siggi *******
@Luit ****************
again you keep on posting lies! No immigration officer ever can ask you for showing your bank account. Only if you apply for an extension or a visa you have to add to the application your finance.

Why the admins here do not stop the wrong info and lies? It's ridiculous that this is going on.

Only a court order can force anybody to show your bank accounts.
Luit *****************
@Siggi ******
I am 100 percent sure an immigration officer in Thailand can kjust like in most other countries check if you comply with all the entry requirements.

Where did you get that strange idea that this would not be allowed in Thailand?

Maybe you should Google for it and you will seen that in most countries this just is allowed.

Sometimes you are allowed not to cooperate, but that almost always means your entry will be denied.

And yes, it would be a good idea when admin would stop you from posting wrong information, because when they don't you keep going on posting the silly statement that IO officers are not allowed to check compliance with rules without a court order.

Andi ***********
@Luit ****************
I have not said requirements are not in place. I said it is unlikely to be asked for the 500k. UNLIKELY is not NEVER. The fact I and thousands of others have not been asked does mean something, it is confirmation of the rarity of being asked to show 500k.
Luit *****************
@Andi **********
I expect percentage to be checked under 1 percent, and maybe chances are influenced by several algorithms.

But I am also sure that chances of getting checked are much bigger than winning Thai lottery.

Everybody is free to gamble with entering while not complying, but some here think there just are no rules, just because 99 percent tells they are not checked.
Andi ***********
@Luit ****************
So we agree on the rarity of the 500k checked.

Siggi *******
@Wannikea ********
don't post lies, no Immigration officer will ever ask for bank account. This would be illegal, and this is in every country the rule
Luit *****************
@Siggi ******
Please stop posting these nonsense, in all countries immigration officers are allowed to check if people entering the country comply with the rules, that is their job! It would be stupid when they were not allowed to check.

If travelers not cooperate, they might ask court order for it, but that will mean you will have to wait in custody for the court order, or you just got denied entry.

Where did you get those strange ideas about laws which would be even worldwide forbidding law enforcement officers to examine people.
Elías ********
@Wannikea ********
they might not even understand the numbers or words 🤷🏻, not to mention grasping the exchange rate to translate it to Thai baht or USD. In my case, my bank is Korean and so the app and everything is in Korean language (and the money is in Korean won, of course). Some countries write one million like 1.000.000 while others write it 1,000,000. Some others, reportedly, separate the numbers every four, not every three (India, I heard). In Korea, China and Japan, in some cases they use "man" so 1 million become 100 man (100만), although that's mostly used in company statements not bank accounts, but see the point.
Luit *****************
@Elías *******
With Google and Google translate it is not too difficult to check these info, and they just might ask you to explain.

calling someone a sensitive snowflake is a form of gaslighting. Is it a regular practice for you to call someone too sensitive? If so you may be a narcissist. A lot of older generations are deeply wounded because of trauma and cant see the damage they inflict emotionally. If you have children, i feel sorry for them. Most likely their emotional needs and safety was never met by a father like you. But dont worry Mark, theres beer in the fridge to keep you docile and lacking in emotional maturity. Dont worry about reflecting on your own behaviour or growing up. Its clear you lack emotional intelligence. Im sorry your parents failed you or the humans around you didnt have compassion or teach you about it. You a prime example of everything thats wrong with your generation.

I think DTV is not much easier, only more flexible and for workcation it might be cheaper but for soft power it is not that cheap.

The 10K for 5 years is only in case of workcation.

Unless of course you ignore requirements and just gamble you did not get caught.

The main advantage of DTV is its flexibility which non-o does not have.

yeah it would be the same asking someone that's on a 1 year marriage extension to show 400k in bank when re-entering. If there was a requirement to maintain funds then it would be clear when applying , just like it's very clear with retirement visa
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 424 You draw your own conclusions, nowhere is said it may be less during visa use. For retirement and marriage is stated you may lower it during the year, for DTV nothing is mentioned about the possibility to lower.
