Getting ready to apply for marriage visa. Found this list of requirements.

Trying to figure out the difference between 7 and 8, the bank book and a bank guarantee or statement. Do they just want a copy of the bank book?

TLDR : Answer Summary
This conversation revolves around the requirements for applying for a marriage visa in Thailand, particularly clarifying the distinction between a bank book and a bank guarantee or statement. Several comments explain that a bank book is simply a record of account transactions, while a bank guarantee or statement is an official document from the bank confirming the account balance and ownership. Additionally, there's a consensus that the bank will be familiar with the documents required for visa applications, and it's essential to ensure that all financial documents show consistent balances and information. Further discussions hint at variations in requirements depending on the immigration office.

These are the requirements of an extension for a married visa which can be obtained in country. The requirements are different to obtain the original marriage visa outside Thailand. They are much easier at the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles and that is where I have obtained my married visa for the past 15 years. Much less hassle and no pushback.

Bank statement is as it is. A bank gauratee is a letter from the bank manager saying that you have access and the means to withdraw it. It's a very common letter in Thai banks and my Thai dad even needs one when he applies for his 10 year UK family visa.

Immigration will pay a surprise visit to your home within 30 days to verify your marriage.

I got to do all this crap as well and samut sakorn wants us to bring a neighbour to office as well
Kool *******
One letter is verifying that the account is actually yours, and the other is an actual account statement showing how long the money has been there, if you are using the bt400k option, or your monthly deposits from overseas source if you are using the monthly income option.

I remember when I got married in the registry office in bkk..... I was ready to walk out,,, I told my future wife then,,, stuff it,, I'm out of here,,, it was only when I saw the tear in her eye that I put up with the invasive bullshit questions,,, I even said I would send them photos of us shagging providing they pay for the experience, us being together, living together, having a business together ment nothing to them! It wasnt an enjoyable experience,,, and I wouldn't mind but I even bought new flip flops for the occasion

no they just want the things they are asking for, a bank book and a statement from the bank are two different things. your bank can make those papers for you they will cost you about 100 baht each.
Bill *******
Actually you need 3 forms of income verification from your bank, if you are using monthly income (40k baht minimum) 1. Copy of the past 12 months of your passbook. 2. Income statement from your bank’s head office showing past 12 months account monthly deposits (100 baht fee). This took a week to get from Bangkok Bank. 3. A letter from your bank’s branch where you do business showing monthly deposits (200 baht fee).

You don't say which Immigration Office you will be using. The answer to your question in Phuket is both:

"Signed and stamped bank letter AND Signed and stamped bank statement showing the money ( Minimum THB 400.000 ) for at least 2 months before application date. (Max 7 days old)

Copy updated Thai bank (saving account only) book name page and last 2 months transactions.

Please make sure that all papers have the same balance mentioned" --
*******************************************************

The bank letter is a very standard format: full name of the owner of the account and balance on the letter date, signed and stamped by an authorized person at the bank.

The bank statement is simply a copy of the transactions that occurred in your bank account over a period of time that is stamped and signed by the bank.

A copy of your bank book shows the same information in your bank statement (assuming no consolidated entries in your bank book) but is not attested to by the bank (no stamp, no signature) and that you yourself sign as a true copy of your bank passbook.

The balance on the date of your bank letter should be the same in each of those three documents.

At Bangkok Bank, a teller can "force" an update to your passbook so if they do that and then produce your letter, account statement, and you make copies of the passbook, there will be an entry in each of those three things with a date and the same balance. Again, in my experience, those three things can be produced at nearly the same time. Phuket Immigration will accept a letter and accompanying documentation from the previous day when making an application. I understand that some offices require it to be produced on the same day you go to make your application.

It does make sense that if three proofs are required the easiest thing is for the officer to look for the same balance figure in all three places on the same date. It would also make sense to me that an immigration officer might understand when there is a discrepancy such as the one you mention. That's never needed to happen with my documentation in my experience though.

Your bank will know what to provide.

That document says 3 months for the money. Every office is different. Follow the 3 months not my 2 months

@Kevin *****
how can you have 3 month deposit, jf you come to Thailand with a Non-O visa 90 days?
Alan *********
@Florian ******
they will give extensions as you are doing the process

@Alan ********
thanks for the specifications, Its going to be my first time, thats why I was confused
Martin *********
Ask in your bank ‘ the same day you apply for visa ‘ extension for bank to update you book today’s date , and ask for a certificate to show balance , they are used to being asked for this ..
Steve **********
It’s two separate letters. The bank will know exactly what you mean and what you need. I walked in and told them and 10-15 minutes l walked out with both letters.

It’s definitely not a copy of the bank book. They are letters the bank generates and the bank manager signs.
Kevin ******
I got this one. You need 2 copies of your bank book. The 400k has to be in there 2 months prior to you submitting for visa. Have the atm or bank clerk update all the information into your bank book

Then you have to get a stamped letter from the bank that the information in your book is correct. Make sure that document states it for the immigration department. Copy that as well. Fees vary, but I pay 100baht for the stamped document from bank.

Understand?
