My Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage needs to be extended before April 25th. I plan to go in 45 days before this to extend and then would need to return in person on May 25th under the 30 days under consideration. We are thinking about taking a trip to Japan for 7 days and will return by May 25th. My question is would there be any problems if I purchase the re-entry permit before leaving and after extending the visa and while under the 30 days under consideration? My current re-entry permit expires on April 25th. They have not come by the house to interview us in the past two years but it could be a possibility. Can I just let them know the dates of travel? Thx!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is seeking advice about traveling to Japan for 7 days while waiting for the extension of their Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage. They plan to extend the visa 45 days before its expiration and are concerned about any potential issues with a re-entry permit during the 30 days under consideration post-application. Comments from other users suggest that it is permissible to travel as long as the poster returns by the expiration of the consideration period and advises to inform the immigration office about the travel plans when applying for the extension.

I believe that the OP has the answers needed for his question.

Tod, the dates dont make sense though, 45 days before Apr 25th is more or less now, the 30 day consideration period is between application and issue, so a new extension (and rentry permit if requested) should have been issued by end of April, any May travel would be fine. So no need for reentry permit during the consideration period, just one post the approval.

notice i didn't mention any of the dates at all, because the O/P can look at the dates they get their stamp for when they get it and go from there.

I'm not doing that.

can look at the stamp when they get the application turned in and the passport back to see what date they actually have to show back up at the immigration office and THEN they can decide their course of action from that point

Sounds good. I'll wait to see what date they stamp for me to return and then go from there. It seems like the return date is 30 days from when my visa needs to be extended no matter if I go in early to extend but why take chances.

, because, usually, under-consideration period is the first part of the new extension, not starting on the day of application. In OP's case, U/C starts 26 April (it 25 April is the expiry date).

Once you apply for the yearly extension and they stamp the under consideration stamp into your passport you can buy a single re-entry permit and as long as you're back IN thailand on the date that stamp expires so you can go get your extension inked in you should be fine,

Goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) TELL your immigration office when you apply for the yearly extension that you're traveling during the under consideration period, so they know ๐Ÿ™‚
