Can I travel outside Thailand while my marriage visa extension is under consideration?

Okay I think we're having a dis-connect on things 😮

There are TWO totally different things required to get a "year marriage visa" in thailand.

If you are doing the process ALL in country you first apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai.

This is the one that requires a minimum number of days left on your current free entry stamp, tourist visa entry stamp or a 30 day extension from one of those.

You show up, apply, pay the 2000baht and you get a receipt that says to come back on xxx date and get your "results". During THIS period you CANNOT leave the country, there is no leeway on this, you exit/re-enter it cancels everything and you start over.

I don't know any office that puts a stamp IN your passport for this, the return date is on the receipt for the 2000baht that you paid to apply for the visa

You then return to the immigration office on that date, get the Non-Imm visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in.

You then wait until you have about 30 days or less (some offices are 45 days or less) and go back and apply for the year extension for 1900baht.

This gets you an "application for extension under consideration" stamp in your passport that is usually for 30 days (bangkok now does them only for 21 days now)

This under consideration stamp is the one you CAN leave the country on. IF you buy a re-entry permit (which as I said is good only for the under consideration stamp) AND if you return to thailand on/by that date so you can go back to the immigration office and get the year extension inked in.

So two completely different things, the initial visa application <- which during you cannot leave and the year extension under consideration period <- which during you can leave IF you buy a re-entry permit and return before the date the stamp runs out

You didn't mention which Immigration Office your application rests with.. I'm currently in an 'under consideration' period in CM for a non-o married visa.. they have made it clear that i CANNOT travel out of Thailand until my extension is stamped in my passport.. i had a home visit yesterday from an IO and clarified this with him again.. he said that any travel during this period will disrupt the process and I'd have to start again! Ps. This had nothing to do with having a re-entry permit.

Yes you can travel make the re entry permit before the departure

you can indeed travel out and back IF

you buy a re-entry permit once you get your under consideration stamp <- and that is valid ONLY thru the under consideration period

AND

you let the immigration office know you're going out of the country in case your office does an in home visit
