Hi Everyone hopefully someone has had the same situation as me knows the answer:

I entered Thailand on a 30 day visa on arrival I just got stamped another 30 days to visit thai wife im a USA citizen . I want to apply for a NON O based on marriage. Can I leave the country while the visa is processing if I pay for multi entry or must I stay until its issued ? I understand the first step is 90 days (thats the time period i want to leave and return ! away only 4 weeks) thanks in advance for any answers. Pic for attention only ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about leaving Thailand while their NON-O marriage visa is processing, having recently received an extension of their 30-day visa on arrival. Various community responses suggest that one can discuss their desire to leave with Immigration at the time of application and possibly buy a re-entry permit for multiple entries. Additionally, options for extending their stay, such as a tourism extension or applying for a family visit extension, were explored, as well as anecdotes about successful visa applications from neighboring countries.

I have applied for and gotten the marriage visa from the Thai Embassy Washing DC while I was in Indonesia.

I am not sure I fully understand your question but I will share my experience and maybe you'll find it useful.

My most recent experience. I applied for a non-o marriage visa while I was in Thailand. I went to Indonesia, I then received the marriage visa, I then returned to Thailand on that visa. Hence, you can apply now but it wont be "activated" until you enter Thailand (which means you must first leave Thailand). Bali is a great place to do a border bounce and it's not really that more expensive then going to a neighboring country.

You can get a 60 day extension for visiting your wife once. Probably easier to do that and apply for a re-entry permit then apply for the 90 day visa after you return

You can get a tourism extension of 30 days then, if you have a Thai wife, you can apply for the 60 day visit Thai family extension. When applying for the initial 90 day Non-O (marriage) Visa you will get an under consideration stamp where there may be home visits for interviews and photos etc. If you want to leave during this period you need to discuss it with Immigration at the time you apply then, if they consent, buy a re-entry permit. All extensions cost 1900B, a visa application is 2000B and a (single) re-entry permit is 1000B.

Is it true that one may be eligible for a 60 day family extension with an original visa exempt entry + 30 day tourism extension? I was under the assumption that one needs a Non-O 90 day visa to qualify for the 60 day family extension and that visa exempt entry or tourist visas do not qualify. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, on a Visa Exempt entry stamp you can apply for the 60 day Visir Thai Family extension but most Immigration Offices might require you to take the 30 day Tourism extension first
