Hi asking for a friend who’s not on Facebook.

My friend is currently on non-b visa with work permit (school teacher) but his contract is not been renewed.

Before this he was always on non- o marriage visa and used to do the border run to Laos to obtain this.

When his non-b / contract expires can he apply for non-o marriage visa (3 month) in country?

He is looking for another job so hopefully won’t require to do this but if the new job hunt is unsuccessful can he do what I asked above?

If possible Can anyone confirm to me that the funds are required to be shown in immigration?

As when he was acquiring his previous non - o marriage visa in Laos no funds had to be shown.

Sorry if wording of visa / extension is not correct but I’m sure everyone understands what my mate is asking?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual on a Non-B visa, currently employed as a school teacher, wishes to know if they can switch to a Non-O marriage visa after their employment ends, particularly if they are unable to secure another job. Responses indicate that they can apply for a change of visa type at the immigration office, but will need to cancel their current extension of stay based on employment first. Additionally, clarification is requested on whether funds must be shown when applying for a new visa based on marriage; however, past experiences suggest funds may not be required when applying for certain temporary extensions.

There are total different rules and regulations between being in the country using a Non Immigrant B visa or using the Extension of Stay based on employement.

I would say get this clear before the wrong advice is given.

If he is on an Extension of Stay based on being employed this has to be cancelled at the Immigration Office on his last day of work. This can be done in advance, he has to apply for a new Extension of Stay, this could be with reason married to a Thai National but he has to meet the requirements otherwise he will get a stamp that application is not approved and 7 days to leave the country.

thanks for ur info... so he can apply for new extension based on marriage... could he aapply for 60 day extension family extension without showing funds... for example and not the initials non-o 3 month extension?

Does that make sense??

If he not used this 60 day Extension of Stay based on visiting Family after his last entrance in Thailand, i would say yes.

hi mate... yes I do believe he is on extension of stay based on employment... like I said apologies for my wording.... he has to do 90 day reporting so it will be extension of stay.

Can you advise??

You have lots of "What If's"

in your posting for a friend.

Bottom line ..your friend will have to ask local Thai immigration about obtaining a Non O based Married to Thai extension of stay when his Non B employment ends.

Or...if married to a Thai apply for the one time 60 day Family Visit extension of stay...at the end of his current Non B extension. Thus...changing from one extension to another.

There is no confirmation yet of the current availability of a Non O One Year Multi-entry visa based on being married to Thai... as your friend had obtained before from Thai Embassy in Savannakhet (or from HoChiMinhCity/Saigon) WITHOUT proof of funds.

With borders still closed to Laos and just opening by air to Vietnam...we watch for reports of any visa successes.
