TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster expressed frustration over receiving only a 7-day extension on their Non-O visa based on marriage, rather than the expected 30 or 60 days. The community discussed potential reasons for this unusual situation, including possible scrutiny due to past extensions, changing immigration policies, and the requirement to apply for a "family visit" extension, which is still available but has faced recent crackdowns. Users suggested the possibility that the immigration officer may have been new or unaware of the rules, and emphasized the importance of applying for the correct types of extensions moving forward.

Today I went to immigration with my bodyguard, meaning my Thai wife 😂. After a few minutes of conversation, I received a 60-day extension, as always, just like every year ... She told my wife that yesterday I wanted to extend my Non-O visa for 30 days, so she couldn’t do that. She offered me 7 days or 60 days instead, but not 30. .30 days extentlion is for tourist visa.

The 90 + 60 days has been discontinued since the last crackdown (late last year).

But you can pay around 6-8k baht with an gent to get that 60 days still.

I feel like most who commented are unaware of the 60 days extension to visit family, which has been a thing since forever. The first crackdown was to denied 60 + 30 + 60, or straight up 60 + 60, and then 90 + 60 was part of the next wave of crackdown.

Sujy Sujaree I got the 60 day extension based on family a couple of weeks ago.

You can only get it once per issued visa though.

Btw, you are a woman, so why don't you get the yearly extension based on marriage? There is no 400k baht requirement for foreign women, only foreign men.

Marianne Holmen Yes, but it's harder to do many of these, especially consecutively. Meaning if you do 90 + 60, leave Thailand to make another 90 days, it's hard to do another 60.

Greg is correct but it's better now. Meaning that they went from denied you entry and send you back to Laos, to now not allowing you to leave Thailand from that border unless you can somehow convince them that you won't try to come back from that border. So if they already know that they will deny you, they won't even allow you to leave Thailand to begin with. I say better because there is no gamble anymore. Went it happened to me late 2024 (denied entry). I had to go to Vientiane and fly back to BKK with agent.

Greg Alexander Btw, I'm Maxim Thibodeau . I remember your name, no idea why. We may have debated before. This is my wife FB. I know my stuff. I was hit by every line of crackdown: Volunteer visa crackdown, Ed Visa crackdown, first line of 60 days visit family crackdown, the 2nd wave, and the denial entry first wave in Nong Khai. You survive everything in Thailand with a good agent in your corner. Everything is possible still in 2026, even more so now that the Junta won the election. In fact, its easier now. Agents will start offering more packages. Its still possible in 2026 to get yearly extension with agent for ed visa, marriage, etc, without ever leaving your house. Nothing has change in that regard.

AttractiveCelery4519 they won't allow you back in across their land border. They will tell you to fly back to Thailand, and always add "good luck!" Because you will be at the whim of the Immigration officer at the airport

Greg Alexander Its 90 + 60, then 90 + 7 if you try again. Unless there significant time in between. But you cant do it back to back anymore unless lucky. Same thing with 60 + 60, its 60 + 7 after (for the last 2 years). The 90 + 7 is more recent (since late 2025), in line with the last crackdown. I'm in similar situation as OP. I've used the scheme a lot. 90 + 60, 30 + 30 + 60, 60 + 30 + 60, etc, Every single combo for over 10 years + sometimes stuff in between.

He can still do the 60 btw with an agent, even with that 7 days stamp. But probably for more than the 6-8k baht.

The 60 + 30 + 60, or 60 + 60 it's been crackdown for about 2 years. So this one the ship has sailed except 6-8k baht an agent will get it for you. The 90 + 60 is more recent but it's a matter of time before it's banned everywhere. But still can do that one too with agent.

Once you have that 7 day stamp you have no option but to leave within the 7 days. No idea why they refused your 60 day visit family extension. Is this most recent entry very close to when you last left?

Maybe your ‘wife’ has had a talk with them. They don’t refuse marriage extensions without a due reason. Have you been a naughty boy?

Pete Williams keep in mind this is NOT a marriage extension, as this one would be for one year. The 60-days extension is based on "family visit" and can be applied for only once per entry

you've been doing that for a decade? I bet that's why. They want you to get the real year extension that the original 90 day non o is meant for. The 60 day visit family thing is more of a courtesy. It's not a guarantee. And it's not meant for continuous use. Get the year extension and a reentry permit next time.

Greg Alexander getting the year extension would remove this problem altogether. That's the point. Theres no law about the limit of the 60 day visit family extension. It is given on a case by case basis. And not all immigration offices give them at all. He should just be happy they let it slide by so easily for so long, but realize that now he has to do things differently, because the way he was doing it was clearly not to their satisfaction. Easy fix, get the yearly extension with a reentry permit. Single or multiple.

day extensions. Which is not what the visa is for.

That should be a no brainer. I actually never heard that one got several 60 days extensions in a row.

His previous case worker must have loved him.

has something been missing? Did you show an up-to-date freshly printed on the Amphur Kor Ror 22 or 2 (whichever applies) ? Without proof of a still existing marriage, you cannot get a 60-days "family visit" extension . . or maybe she was new and does not know about this possibility for applicants married to a Thai wife, then you should go back

A non O visa can only extended by one year. The 7 days is not an “extension” as such but a rejection of an extension giving you 7 days to leave.

You may be able to get a 60 day “visit family” extension but that’ll be up to the office/officer.

Sujy Sujaree you are misinformed. The 60-days extension based on "family visit" has never been discontinued. It can however be applied for only once per entry
