Has anyone had any success applying for the DTV visa in neighbouring countries?

I have a visa that runs out on December. I’d rather not fly all the way back to the UK just to change visas.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
Users have reported success in applying for the DTV visa from neighboring countries such as Vientiane, Hanoi, and Cambodia, suggesting it's possible to change visas without returning to the UK. Some individuals have even shared experiences of applying while still in Thailand and then leaving the country once the new visa is granted.

Loads of posts today about people doing it in neighbouring countries

Links not working but seen at least three two from loas and one from cambodia

I’ve seen posts from people that applied whilst in Thailand and then once got the visa do leave Thailand and enter on the new visa πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. I always used to do that with tourist visas if needed but they are doing it with the DTV also

works until you get caught and entry banned. Dont risk fraud, Laos ain’t far

That's never going to happen. The Thai Visa system is corrupt with fraud through and through. Fraud is committed every day by visa agents across the country. No-one is going to worry about the location of a person when they made an online application!

The embassy in London even told me this when the e-visas came out and I was in Thailand at the time

Exactly! They don't care. What exactly is the magnitude of the sin? It's not really affecting anyone, it's just a process.

it would only take an Immigration Officer to be on the ball and someone doing that would be in a spot of bother. They would only need to see in a passport the stamp showing the previous entry into Thailand, check their computers and also see the date the DTV was issued and conclude that fraud has been committed.

I don’t know about the DTV but immigration have even told me I could do the visa process in Thailand for a TR visa and then leave the country and reenter to activate. I makes absolutely no difference to them when you think about it.

What difference does it make whether you apply for the DTV inside Thailand or outside of Thailand? If you are eligible you are eligible. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@Jim *******
you have to provide the location and it can't be Thailand

I fully get that but let’s say you put your home country like I always have what difference does it make?

I’m just trying to get my head around the logic.

Let’s say you are in Thailand on a TR visa and now the DTV has been announced and you are eligible why would you be made to leave the country for the duration of the application process to then enter the country again once the visa is issued when you could apply in country and then leave and reenter to activate the visa?

I’ll find the email out from the London embassy pre Covid where they said it was fine to do that for a TR visa when the E-visas were introduced.

I was told that the only reason they ask for location is to give it to an embassy to process and actually has no significance whether you are in that country or not

@Jim *******
you confirm that the information you supply is accurate and correct as part of the process. Lying on the application is hardly that. It could result in your visa being revoked

People lie on visa extension applications every day of the week. How many retirees really have 800k in the bank, as against how many pay visa agents to "facilitate" their visas. How many of these visas are revoked? It seems with the DTV, Thailand has thrown caution to wind and opened the doors to one and all. No one's going to worry about where someone was when they made their online application

very true...

What's the real legalities of many Thai Laws and how they're manipulated by Visa Agents/companies... Everyone's heard various stories where money does the Talking whether good or Bad that's how the system works from time to time 🀷🏽
Jim ********
@Mar ****
Exactly my point. And people are saying if you apply from inside the country, you're going to be deported!! Sure.....πŸ˜‚
John **********
@Jim *******
and those visa agents pay immigration officers to "ease" visa applications. No lies involved.
Jim ********
@John *********
So committing fraud is not lying? Yeah, ok! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
John **********
@Jim *******
two different things. Both not good. But the point I was trying to make was that immigration officers have had a bung in one case and not in the other. Therefore their compatriots are less likely to do anything in the 1st case
Jim ********
@John *********
And do you really believe Thai immigration are going to start deporting people for a slight "massage" of the truth? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
John **********
@Jim *******
I've never once mentioned anyone being deported. But I have seen examples of people on agent obtained extensions being refused service when they go and try to get the next extension themselves as many immigration offices won't deal with certain extension obtained through agents
Jim ********
@John *********
Exactly! And that's in cases where corrupt immigration officers have been bribed thousands of baht, not where an applicant has applied for a visa whilst in Thailand.
John **********
@Jim *******
so what do you think might happen if you were to go to an immigration office to apply for an extension of your DTV?
Jim ********
@John *********
Personally I wouldn't be doing that, but I imagine you'd present an extension application form, photos and 1900 baht, and possibly a TM30, the same as any other extension. What's your take? Arrest and deportation? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
John **********
@Jim *******
I'd imagine an extension refusal
Jim ********
@John *********
πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I doubt that very much! Immigration doesn't care where you are when you apply. The application is made through the MFA, nothing to do with immigration. I know many people who apply for a TR visa in country, then border bounce to activate it, then get an extension. Immigration doesn't care - they're too busy checking your TM30!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@Jim *******
Yes, they tell the same lies during the application that you did
