TLDR : Answer Summary
To obtain a DTV visa, expats from the UK are advised to apply through the Thai embassy or consulate in London, where they can meet the visa requirements. An e-visa option is available for a smooth application process. It is important to ensure all DTV requirements are met before applying. Some discussions highlight concerns over potential changes by the new Prime Minister regarding the DTV visa, suggesting some might want to apply sooner rather than later. There is also a note that there is no insurance requirement for the DTV, contrary to other visa types.

Seriously mate, that’s a low effort post!

Sounds like you should pay ‘Thai Visa Center’ to be babied through the visa process.

They run several pages, including Thai Visa Advice. While I can't personally vouch for their services since I've never used them, I can attest to the excellent public advice they consistently provide. If you're looking for a more personalized service, I think it’s worth considering their paid service for better results.

The DTV visa is out for most people on a pension, who can get health insurance? with COVID insurance attached too it's just about impossible
Ivan ************
@Ma**
above is the US requirements, they are the same if you are from the UK though, look at London's requirements here:

@Ma**
there is no insurance requirement for the DTV. COVID insurance used be required for any entry during the pandemic but this went away a long time ago. The O-A retirement visa, however, DOES require insurance.

I do wonder how these people book a flight over
Mike ******
Dtv is just a tourist visa it has been going for years.

Stop spreading uninformed misinformation, it's unhelpful

The old PM was the champion of the DTV so now he's gone who knows what might happen next
Ivan ************
@Gra***
if you think the new PM is going to discontinue the DTV soon surely that's an argument to get it now, not wait until they discontinue it?
Graham ******
@Ivan ***********
exactly, or the soft option might disappear

The new PM may see the value of the DTV and increase it to TEN years! 👍👍👍👍

@Tommi ******
The new PM may cancel ALL longstay visas and start deporting all expats.

that is very true but with the Thai economy struggling as it is she would be stupid to change at the moment.

Wherever you can apply and satisfy the requirements
@Tin *********
. Outside of Thailand of course
Gordon *******
You have to satisfy all the requirements of the DTV.

Are you able to fulfill the requirements?
Todd *********
@Gordon ******
have 500k anywhere on earth and a medical appt or muay thai course. Not exactly a high threshold of 'requirements'
Gordon *******
Yes agree Todd
Todd *********
@Gordon ******
the easiest one yet!
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
strange enough I did not read any success stories for the soft power option yet, I doubt if it is as easy as you say.
Todd *********
@Luit ****************
keep reading, you will find plenty. You can doubt it all you wish, but they didn’t create that option for nothing.
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
just point me to one if there are plenty as you say.

Certainly they did creatie the option for a reason, but that does not say anything about how easy it is to comply with the requirements.

It is highly unlikely that one single appointment with a dentist will be sufficient for instance.

But a series of treatments might.
Todd *********
@Luit ****************
there are indeed, but feel free to manage your own research. Check Thai Visa Forum? I don't recall where. I have seen at least of couple of individual stories of successful Muay Thai applicants and one medical treatment plan. Neither should be difficult to accomplish though, and inevitably, more will trickle in on all of these forums as we go. And the generally loose terminology around the requirements is something I would most certainly be jumping on if I needed a long term visa now and didn't qualify for one like LTR. Agree- a series of treatments should be all it takes to get one. I would have a physician write a letter confirming this and move forward quickly really.
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
Time will tell how easy it will be, just like 800k is not really necessary if you push the right buttons, getting the required proof for soft power DTV option might also be easy, depending how it will be implemented

You have to be physicaly in UK, even for e-visa.

The best place is the Thai embassy or consulate where you can meet their requirements for the visa you want to apply for.
