Hey guys, I am heading to Thailand for my first time next week. I will be entering the country on the 45 day pass. I am not applying for a Visa. If I decide to stay longer than the 45 days, is it possible to extend my stay without having to leave the country?

What are my options?

Thank you so much!! :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires whether they can extend their stay in Thailand beyond the initial 45 days granted upon entry without applying for a visa. Responses clarify that visa exempt entries can be extended for an additional 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1,900 baht, with certain requirements such as a TM30 form and additional documents. Some commenters mention alternatives to extend stay options, like leaving the country and re-entering to receive a new visa exemption. Additionally, there is a discussion about the potential need for an onward ticket to enter Thailand, with varying experiences shared regarding checks by airlines and immigration.

Came in 2 weeks ago...everybody in my line at immigration had to show ticket out if coming on exemption

@Vicki *******
May I ask what airport the flight originated from because this does not seem to happen too frequently?
Vicki ********
@Alex ******
there were 32 international flights during that hour

my lineup had many from Israel and India...I came from Canada...many nationalities

One last question! Do they check for an onward ticket upon entry into Thailand? I have no idea when I will be leaving so I don't want to buy a return ticket just yet.
Dennis ********
Just so you know they are wearing mask here in Thailand . So when you see photos of people acting like were back to norm here .''' NO'''
Dennis ********
Yes it is like a nude beach & you are the only one with clothes
Graham ******
Dennis Phelps Locals wear them but it's not mandatory, up to you as they say

I arrived in Thailand from the US a week ago. Neither the airline nor immigration asks me for an onward ticket. I did have one from

should they have asked.

I just got in from Canada 3 days ago. Thailand wonโ€™t ask, but the airline in Vancouver did. My flight was China Airlines, and I heard Air Canada had the same issue in the past. Please prepare an onward flight ticket within the 45 exemption due date, otherwise you may hit rock at the airport before taking off. I bought one fake onward ticket to resolve it, cost $10 USD. The ticket is searchable, and the counter guy did search it for the validation.

@Alex ******
It's not a fake, it's a genuine ticket that's cancelled by the agent before payment is due
Alex *******
Thatโ€™s right, sorry for misleading, I was just try to get the logic straightened: from my point of view, it is a fake one as I am not and cannot buy the ticket.

@Alex ******
Can you share where (which site) you bought that ticket from ?

I entered Thailand 2 weeks ago with VOA of 30 days stamped in the airport. Went to the immigration last week and they told me here they can only extend it for 7 days. Maybe depends also on your passport. My advice would be to read the official Thai page in your country as there are the newest and official info they will apply here.

@Luiza ******
Visa on arrival and visa exempt entries are 2 different things. Visa on arrivals (the one you buy at the airport when you arrive) cannot be extended in country.
Luiza *******
@Garrett **********
that's why the guy asking here would better check the official info for his passport. My 2 cents ๐Ÿ˜Š
Garrett ***********
@Luiza ******
It's not rocket science though, Canadian passport holders get Visa exempt entry, which is extendable....
Marc ********
@Luiza ******
yes it all depends on passport

Fly out fly back in get another 45 days on entry

nice island off vietnam Phu Quoc no visa required for that island

Fly back couple days later get 45 days on entry
William ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Or I do the extend and then fly out and get another 75 days? ๐Ÿ˜„
Marc ********
@William **********
but you have to wait with fly out until 30 days up.

Otherwise you will lose the remaining days

@William **********
all options to be considered it's what ever works best for you personally good luck

I hope it all goes well what ever you decide

Thank you for your help!! ๐Ÿ™

@Trigger ********
terrible advice when he can just get an extension for 1900 baht.
Marc ********
@Mike *****
no it was a good advise
Trigger *********
@Mike *****
Not really depends on how many days you want dosent it

Fly back in get another 45 days plus then you can get a 30 day extension on that giving you 75 days total

Just depends on howany days you want

So no not terrible advice an option
Mike ******
@Trigger ********
the OP clearly states he wants to know how to extend without leaving the country.
Todd *********
@Trigger ********
if he extends 30 days, for total 75 days then flys to Phu Quoc and returns for another 45 (if before Mar 31) can still add another 30 days for total 150. A Single entry gets you 75 days at this time
Mike ******
@Todd ********
exactly, you always extend first and then fly out if you need more time. Because then you can extend again. The others cant do basic math I guess.
Trigger *********
@Todd ********
yes that's another good option never thought of that one ๐Ÿ‘
Rob **********
Yes you will enter on a 45 visa exempt stamp, and you can extend this once only for another 30 days for a cost of 1,900 baht at any immigration office in Thailand

good luck with it, but itโ€™s a easy process ๐Ÿ™

Visa exempt entries can be extended at any immigration office in Thailand for an additional 30 days for 1900 baht. You'll need a TM30 from your hotel or landlord, copies of your passport, a passport sized photo, and an application form.
Steve ********
@Garrett **********
I have done a few 30 day extensions and never been asked for a TM30 .

Thank you so much! Is there a specific place to get the passport sized photo?

Application form can be filled on spot at the immigration office or I need to fill it out before going?

@Wil****
You can get pictures taken anywhere. If you're still in Canada, I'd recommend getting a few made now. CVS prints them for like $.50.

Yep, all the forms you need are at immigration. Every province has an immigration office, some are busier than others (bangkoks the busiest) but as a rule plan about 2 hours.
