Hello... If one enters the Kingdom as a visa-exempt American National (now extended to 45 days) what are the possibilities for extension? Also, as much as I have explained about the drawbacks of overstay, not to mention costs, my friend still thinks it's a viable way to stay for 80 days. By my calculation that would add 14,000 baht to his trip, and the scarlet letter in the passport.

Thanks as always for your guidance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
American nationals entering Thailand visa-exempt are initially granted a stay of 45 days, which can potentially be extended for an additional 30 days at Thai immigration for a fee of 1,900 baht. However, staying beyond this period without an extension poses significant risks, including arrest and deportation, making it unadvisable.

AND with that I close commenting as the OP can do his own homework of the varied visa options in staying in Thailand.

First... Regarding your entry visa exempt... You are stamped in for 45 days thru September 30th.....the set date for the special added 15 days to expire.

What happens beyond that date is not known other than its to revert back to the original 30 days visa exempt on arrival entry.

You can extend once for 30 days at Thai immigration for 1,900 Thai baht.

Beyond that you will need to look over your options to staying longer.

Second... Your friend is risking arrest and deportation if he chooses to OVERSTAY.

NEVER OVERSTAY !
