Hi there all :)

I am a South African male currently in Thailand, Phuket with my wife on a tourist visa. My wife and I are visiting Singapore next week and returning back to Phuket, and she is submitting her Non-B Visa in Singapore at the Thai Embassy while we are there as she is going to be teaching in Thailand once all is approved.

My question is, if she is applying for her Non-B (she has been pre-approved online already), do I automatically get a Non-O Visa whilst we are in Singapore next week, and enter Thailand on that visa, or will I need to get a new tourist visa (do a visa run) when reentering the country, and once her work permit is complete, only then can I exit the country and get my Non-O Visa.

We have our marriage certificate, and all relating documents with us.

Thank you very much in advance for your assistance

Richard

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, Richard, is inquiring about visa options while in Singapore with his wife, who is applying for a Non-B Visa to work in Thailand. He seeks to know if he can get a Non-O Visa automatically due to her application or if he must apply for a new tourist visa instead. Multiple comments suggest that he will likely need to do a visa run and apply for a Non-O Visa once his wife's work permit is secured.

Make sure the consulate you're going to use will issue visas for thailand to South African passport holders. More and more consulates are clamping down and not doing it.

Yes and now we need to have a Thai police clearance attached to our documents because we're a shit hole country

You can do your Non O and Non B Together. Ask for all the documents from her school. ( I did my Non B and my Family's Non O at the same time)

@Richard ****
, you're out nothing by emailing the Singapore consulate and asking them if you can apply for a "trailing spouse" Non-O visa because your wife is already approved for getting a 90 day Non-B from them.

I just did my Non B extension and trying to put my husband on my visa as dependent, immigration told me yesterday that my husband will need to leave the country and come back on a Non O visa (you cannot change a tourist visa to a Non O in country). I was at immigration in Phuket town. :)

@Elani ******
, you were given incorrect information from the Phuket immigration office because you can apply for a Non-O inside the country.

Now perhaps your husband didn't have the required number of days left on his permission to stay stamp to cover the 'under consideration" period a Non-O visa inside the country goes under (14 - 21 days depending on the immigration office).

I arrived in Bkk in December and in January I changed my visa exemption to a non Immigrant O (marriage) visa in Bkk. The law clearly states it is posible so you should questions the people working at that immigration office of yours ๐Ÿ˜‰ I'll try to find the documets with requirements and upload them.

Thanks very much everyone.

So it looks like I will have to just do a standard visa run, return with a new tourist visa on arrival, and once her Non-B and work permit is completed, only then can I apply for a spousal Non-O?

Ok I see thanks for that!

Yes her school has done all the documentation and prepared everything for her visa with me in mind as her husband.

So on the school's side all is in order

My understanding is that your wife's visa is not a guarantee (sort of) for her getting a work permit/extension (in the eyes of the embassy I mean). So her paperwork needs to be sorted out first, then her company will provide you some documents to support your application and then you get your visa. I haven't heard of the companies who would support people for both types of visa simultaneously

Well, this is what we did for my daughter (she's a dependent of my husband who is on a non-imm B visa)

She will need to get documents from her school to say that you can be a dependant on her visa after she received her WP

Yes, I don't think you'll be able to get it straight away, unless you have the right documents from her company. Normally a person first gets a non-Imm B visa, then the work permit and the extension of stay and then spouses and children get the non-imm I visas plus extensions.

Yeah that's my thoughts too... ๐Ÿ‘

Applying for a visa in Singapore is done online.

you will need the documents from her company to support the non O for you, just paper work but you will not be able to have it in the same time... ( correct me if iam wrong)

If she get the Non B with a work permit after here in thailand u can get a marriage visa inside thailand as well , or ask direct in Singapore for it

Sorry pls delite it
Tod *********
that is 100% incorrect there is no "marriage visa" for foreign couples
