Do my wife and daughter need to exit Thailand to activate their NON-O visa after I receive my NON-B visa?

Greetings,

I am in the following situation.

Got a job in Thailand (all papers approved); waiting for my NON-B immigrant visa to be issued by the local embassy (there have been very slow - already 2 weeks). Hope to be approved in the next days.

My wife and daughter will join me with a NON-O visa (which I have to apply after my visa is approved).

If they will join me with a touristic visa in the first place (while their visa is being process) - and visa is approved while in Thailand they have to exit and entry again for their NON-O to be valid or can be made in Bangkok.

If they have to exit (and I have to go with them) - my visa will be NON-B immigrant - Single Entry - how do I do in this case?

thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is waiting for their NON-B immigrant visa in Thailand and plans for their wife and daughter to join with a NON-O visa. They question whether their family needs to exit Thailand to activate their NON-O visa and if they must accompany them since their own visa is a single entry. Comments clarify that the family does need to exit and re-enter for the NON-O visa to take effect, and also mention that the user can stay behind if not traveling with them, but will need a re-entry permit for their NON-B visa.

Think about just having a weekend in Siem Riep as a family getaway. Fly over and back, quite cheap and enjoyable, and with a baby your wife will be fussed over.

thinking of Vietnam but Siem Riep is a good option as there is no traffic from the airport!

There's no reason to have to go with them. But if you do go you'll need a re-entry permit.

I know that is a bit not ok to be in Thailand while visa is issued. Might have some issue or not? The application process already has started in the residence country. So the visa might be issued while being in Thailand with a touristic one...then do the visa run.

Happens all the time.

if you receive the visa while you're in Thailand there's no issue at all with leaving and entering again on the new visa.

1 year old its a bit difficult to travel alone. For the re entry permit I need to go to a local office? Tnx!

you can either get it from immigration office or at the airport on your way out.

If you do it at the airport make sure you don't forget and give yourself an extra 15 minutes or so.

not all international airports issue a re entry permit, so check beforehand if not flying from Bangkok.

They need to exit and re enter to activate their visas. You'll need a re-entry permit
