Hello visa gurus. I need a bit of advice. My wife got a job at an international school and will be Going to Laos next week to get her Non B visa.

I would like to get a Non O(dependant) visa as I won't be working in Thailand but still want to be based here.

The question is do I have to go to Laos with her and apply at the same?

The timing really doesn't work for me.

Can I apply at a later date or can I get it without leaving Thailand?

I am on a visa exempt that I can still extend.

And one more question for the trailing spouses.

Does our marraige certificate need to be authenticated by the emabassy?

She is Canadian and I am South African but we were married in New Zealand.

Thanks for the help guys. Thailand red tape keeps me up at night..

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on obtaining a Non O (dependent) visa while their spouse is applying for a Non B visa in Laos. They want to know if they must accompany their spouse to Laos for the visa application, if they can apply later, or if they can secure the visa without leaving Thailand. They also inquire about the authentication of their marriage certificate due to their international marriage.

If 'red tape' here keeps you up at night then I'll bet you never sleep in Canada, South Africa or NZ

The easiest way is for you to go to Lao and get the 90 day Non-O visa when she goes to get her 90 day Non-B.

You'll need a letter from her company stating it's okay for you to get a non-O visa. They'll accept your marriage certificate (if it's the original one) without any certification.

I do not believe you would be able to get a 90 day Non-O visa issued inside the country from the immigration office based on being married to someone who legally works here. It would be far better for you to "make the timing work for you" rather than to go after the fact.

Just keep it simple as Tod suggests, visa comes first.

I appreciate that. I think this was the answer that I expected. I will move some stuff around and just get it done properly.
