TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around obtaining a marriage visa (Non-O visa) in Thailand without strictly adhering to financial requirements. It explains that, although standard documentation such as a bank statement or proof of income is necessary for a yearly extension of stay based on marriage, there are ways around these requirements depending on nationality and the issuing Thai consulate. Specifically, certain consulates (e.g., in Savannakhet, Vietnam, and Seoul, South Korea) do not demand financial proof for the initial Non-O visa application. The conversation also touches on alternatives like affidavits of income and advice on handling situations where proof of income may be questioned by immigration officials.

Hi, I am currently in BKK on a tourist single entry of 30days, will I be able to fly to Mukdahan and then to travel Savannakhet to have my Multiple-Entry Non-O Visa (based on marriage) done within the 30days? Please advise, thank you!
And after which, I'll be back with a 90days stamp right Tod?

what you do mean "done within 30 days"?
You apply at the consulate in Savannakhet one morning and you pick up your passport with the visa in it the next afternoon.

Don't know where you're from but if American and you're just looking for the visa, not extension of stay, when you apply in the USA you only need to show a bank balance of $700
yeah that's right, but you can mail in the application express post, takes about 2 weeks to get it back

AFAIK; only 4 consulates in the USA can issue year-long, multiple entry Non-O visas based on marriage to a thai national. Chicago, Los Angeles, New York & Washington DC. The other honorary consulates can't issue multi-entry visas anymore.

Depending on your nationally for some visa extensions it's possible to use an affidavit of income in lieu of seasoned money in a Thai bank account. U.S. and Australian are the two I'm aware of.
, As long as you have the income statement from an Embassy it is ok.

I get paid in Chinese RMB and the British embassy told me when I got the affirmation to marry to just show my salary statements from China and they will write the letter
, if the Chinese Embassy is willing to give you the income statement it will be ok. But don't mention to everyone you work in Thailand online.

Tod Daniels I get paid via China and the UK embassy told me just to show salary statements from China and they will provide me with proof of income even though I work online in Thailand, will that be OK? Got no work permit and impossible to get one but I'm married to a Thai and living in the middle of nowhere

I was asked and told I them didn't have to and showed them the Thai visa regulations for US citizens.

Remember though, you can always be asked to prove the amount you put on that letter at the immigration office.
Granted the chance of being asked to prove it is negligible, BUT you can be asked for proof IF an officer wants to ask you. :)

And the Netherlands, proof of year statement of income, proof of paid taxes and it can be checked with the tax office in the Netherlands.

Almost every country's consulate here in thailand offers the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter.
There are only 2 consulates I know of which require you to show proof that the amount you put on the letter is backed up with something (bank statement, pension, etc) and those are the Canadian Consulate and the UK Consulate.
Both of those you take proof in and they write the letter for you.
In fact the UK Consulate ONLY does those letters by post or email now, you can't walk in and get one.

I do not see any rule about countries, so I guess all can do

Ha sorry for my incorrect terminology, I was just typing lazily. But thanks your answer answered all my questions. Thanks very much! I was unaware of Vietnam and Seoul being an option too!

First off you need to understand there is NO such thing as a marriage visa. Period end of story.
There are TWO things that every Tom, Dick and Somchai (foreigner and thai alike) call a marriage visa
One is a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O <- (O meaning other) visa based on marriage which is issued from a thai consulate. On this visa you exit/re-enter the country every 90 days to get another 90 day stamp for the year the visa is valid for.
At present there are three thai consulates in S/E Asia which will issue this visa without proof of financials. They are Savannakhet Lao, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam & Seoul South Korea.
The other "marriage visa" that people refer to is actually a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O visa AND a yearly extension of stay based on marriage that you get at the immigration office. You must supply the correct documentation and meet the financial requirements of either 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name for 2 months before you apply for the yearly extension
OR
a notarized affidavit of income from abroad letter from your consulate stating you get 40k baht a month in income.
OR
legally work here and turn in pay stubs and tax statements showing 40K baht in income from inside the country.
I know someone who was recently married and went there no problem. You just take the documents I mentioned

Great info. I was told by someone that you had to be married for 2 months before going to apply for the non-o based on marriage, can you confirm if true or not. Or can I get married today and go tomorrow?

Correct

Sorry that I stopped the comments on this thread for a bit.
Gimme a minute or three.
BUT know this it is NOT allowed on the group to suggest ways to circumvent the rules when geting extensions inside the country.

Well I hope you know that the salary doesnt have to be from a job within Thailand and I guess almost everyone have a job in their home country and that is enogh.
thank you, I've heard of this but on recent forum posts online ive also seen contrasting posts saying this is no longer possible... I'm hoping that isn't the case

The Thai consulate in Savanaket donโt ask for financial documents
One year multiple entry

I have got same visa from Savannakhet. Yes, it's for 1 year but foreigner must go abroad every 3 months. So this kind of visa is possible for 15 months in fact, no financial requirements but not so comfortable to live.
