Is anyone aware of being able to get a non imm o visa based on marriage without having to have 400,000 thb in their account? I transfer money every month into my Thai account so I’m hoping to use this method.

Thanks for any help 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the conditions under which one can apply for a Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage without having the 400,000 THB required in their bank account. Responses indicate that while some immigration offices may accept monthly income transfers from abroad, it’s not universally accepted, and many offices require proof of a 400,000 THB balance or monthly income of 40,000 THB from legal work in Thailand. Some suggest seeking assistance from an agent, while others recommend checking directly with local immigration offices regarding their specific requirements.

I have a little. From what I understand Australia doesn’t offer a 12 month non o visa anymore only a 3 month visa?

Depends where you are living in Thailand a lot of immigration offices will not except the monthly financial requirements only the yearly requirements of 400,000 baht and seasoned correctly. Go and ask your local immigration office what they will except in regards to this.

thanks. I live on Samui so I will ask and find out otherwise I’m thinking I have to go to Thai immigration outside the country as places like Penang seem to be a little more lenient on requirements.

Yes every entry on that is only for 90 days so it's an extension you are asking about. I don't believe you can get the first extension based on monthly transfers even if they will accept it for subsequent extensions, but they might if you have full 12 months prior to applying. The only way to find out for sure is to pop into the Samui office and ask them.

ok thanks for that. Will do
John **********
Are you talking about the 90 day visa or a 12 month extension of stay?
Nathan *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@John *********
well it’s a 12 month multiple entry so I guess you would say say 90 days. Not an extension

Do an international transfer every calendar month for 12 months, and be able to show a source of foreign income. If minimum qualifications are met, it is easy. If minimum qualifications can be questioned then it becomes difficult.

I have been transferring every month but sometimes not just one transfer but I can show the income no worries.

it's the aggregate not lump sum as long as FTT,

Many will argue, but you and wife could just go to immig office ,and ask advice from IO. They aren't the demons some project.

My immigration demands documentation for a foreign source of income, not just transfers. I use a pension verification letter. Does the immigration you use have that requirement?

I’m self employed and I’m not sure. I will need to check that out. Thanks

It might work and it might not. More and more offices are saying IF you don't legally work IN thailand and make the minimum 40K baht a month salary to meet the monthly income requirements based on marriage extension you cannot use monthly incoming transfers from overseas of 40K baht a month for the previous 12 months. It's just a crap shoot on whether your immigration office will or won't allow it, and they wouldn't allow it on the first yearly extension off a 90 day Non-O because you wouldn't have a year's worth of 40K baht a month transfers <- meaning you either legally work here with a work permit and the appropriate minimum salary, your embassy still issues the income affidavit OR you bank the funds.

thanks for your detailed response. I was thinking my best bet was to go to Penang

I think your best option could be in Savannakhet Laos. They’ve started requiring funds seasoned for the Non O marriage visa with multiple entries and one year validity, but for the single entry Non O there’s still no financial requirements. You have to investigate this further and I hope someone with recent experience from Savannakhet will advise you.

@Nathan ********
Penang also requires 400K seasoning for the Non O based on marriage.

What country is your passport, you may be able to get the income affidavit from your Embassy?

Australia. I think they stopped it from what I heard

don't forget, for the type O extension based on Thai wife, it doesn't matter where the bt400,000 comes from, only that it has to be in your account for at least two months before you apply, then you can do whatever you want with all of it after you get your extension stamp, concerning getting that first full year extension. For the following years your regular transfers from overseas works.

@Kool ******
As mentioned in my comment, you don’t have any guarantee that the income with transactions over sea will work or be approved. Basically you’ll need to work in Thailand OR get an affidavit letter from your embassy confirming your income. Unlike the regular Non O visa, twelve months consecutive transactions over sea is not formally an option.

@Jan *****************
for a little background, I've been on the type O extension based on Thai wife for the last nine years. Read what I said again, after the first year extension, you can use the monthly transfer method. You can still use the bt400,000 method, and I was just reminding him that it doesn't matter where that lump sum came from, as it does with that same extension, but based on retirement. Borrowing that money for the very few months needed for the financial requirement of the extension based on Thai wife. If he hasn't had a work permit for the last year then they won't accept those months. They do accept them after the first year's extension. I've been doing it both ways over 9 years.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
Yes that’s my point, “for the following years you can use the monthly transfer method”, and as I said there’s no guarantee that the immigration will accept monthly transfers over sea, unless your embassy offers to give you a affidavit letter. Your particular immigration might accept this, but if you check the formal requirement from the immigration I’ve posted, the transfer method it’s not mentioned as an option and several immigration states that if you don’t have a affidavit letter from your embassy, earn the required 40K baht monthly income in Thailand or bank the 400K baht you don’t qualify for an extension of stay based on marriage.

@Jan *****************
my immigration office is the main office at chaeng Wattana, that sets the rules, so it isn't about my particular office.
Jan ******************
Kool *******
@Jan *****************
that is only for the first extension. They also accept an official bank deposit statement covering the last 12 months for the following years after the first year. I've been doing this at the main office
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
These are the general requirements for extension of stay based on marriage in Thailand. There’s no special requirement only for the first year extension and based on feedbacks I know people are denied with the transfer method even though they could show proof of twelve transfers from over sea. I have to leave the discussion here as I only can pass by formal requirements, information from previous discussions and personal feedbacks. If all immigrations would allow transfers for the extension of stay based on marriage it would be great.

“I was told at immigration that the 40k a month had to be income made in Thailand and I couldn't just use my transfers from my UK bank to my Thai bank over the last year.”
Kool *******
@Jan *****************
so you are not on this type of visa extension at all? You should also check the date on what you referenced. That is outdated by about 7 years.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
Sorry mate, this is the latest update from may this year. And do you also mean that this particular feedback from this uk guy is false?
Kool *******
@Jan *****************
not sure where you are getting that from, but #5 under requirements has not been a combination of both financially for over 5 years for the marriage extension. That is older than last year sorry to say.
Jan ******************
@Kool ******
That’s why it’s fresh, the combination is again allowed and the marriage doesn’t need to be formally registered in Thailand.
