Good Morning - Help please 🙏🏻 Australian passport holder coming to Bangkok as a tourist for a period of 35 days.

Only just discovered we will need a Visa extension and DO NOT have enough time to acquire prior to flying out next Sunday.

1. Will the airline allow us to board without this ?

2. Can the Visa Extension be applied for once we arrive in Bangkok?

3. Where in Bangkok can we apply?

Thanks for your help 🙏🏻

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian passport holder coming to Bangkok for 35 days needs to consider visa extension options. Airlines may have different policies regarding boarding without an extension, so verification with the airline is advised. Visa extensions can be applied for once in Thailand, with immigration offices available in many locations, including IT Square, Laksi Plaza. Extensions cost approximately 1900 THB and can provide an additional 30 days. Overstaying is possible but comes with risks, including fines and potential complications for future travel.

Goodness the reading comprehension of this group… 😅

You have nothing to worry about. When you arrive you’ll be marked as a visa exempt, which gives you 30 days. You can then get a 30 day extension (regardless of how many you need) at the immigration office which your can find on google maps, for 1900b. The second 30 days begin the day after your original 30 days.

Be nice n polite at check in??

just change you flight dates

As an Australian you you are eligible for visa on arrival for 30 days.

You can arrange for an extension for 30 days once your in Thailand for 1900 THB

There are many immigration officers across Thailand.

I’m Australian & did this recently just before my 30 days expired.

I found an immigration office on Koh Phangan, rather than going to Koh Samui office. It was a very easy process.

Depending on where you’re staying there should be an immigration office close to you. Easier than processing in Bangkok.

Happy Days 🙌❤️🇦🇺

yes I fully understand all that have visited thailand 26 times over the years and also live there for 12 months in 2014 iam pretty converse with the rules regulations but they can change just a quick as the weather

@John ******
you have a few choices. Go to Thai immigration and apply for an extension. Or go to a visa agent and they will do for you. You can do a border bounce which will take longer than getting an extension at immigration. Or you do nothing and leave Thailand after your 35 days. You will be fined for each overstay and you will have an overstay stamp in your passport. This is not good if you plan to return to Thailand in the future

@Cimi *****
But it is the airline who determines whether they will allow you to fly and many will not if you're entering Visa Exempt and do not have proof of onward travel within 30 days

@John ******
I’m sorry my terminology was not correct. Visa exemption is the correct terminology.

I flew with Air Asia. No problem. No questions. But 30 days Visa on arrival flying is always approved from certain countries. Any way it is immigration that determines your Visa. Not the airlines.

thank you - who did you fly with ? They had no issue taking you? I’ve heard this could be the problem

@Cimi *****
you have no idea what you are talking about if you are an Australian you are not eligible for visa on arrival for 30 days as you mentioned Australian passport holders are visa exempt entry for 30 days in thailand VOA and visa exempt are 2 totally different things

information you have given is incorrect

If your return flight is for a 35 day stay just get extension for 1900baht per person at thia immigration to cover your 5 day overstay but wouldn't advise and overstay stamp avoid that at all cost you may get away with out any issue but it all depends on the IO infront of you on the day remember it's thailand and there is never any guarantee of entry even with a clean record enjoy Chokh di

1 week could be enough to get 60 days tourist visa.
Mitchell *******
Also keep in mind, if you plan to visit another country during your main Thailand trip, your 30 days will reset when you re-enter Thailand.

Another alternative and an adventure get a mini bus to Poipet. Go and spend a dollar in the casino, come back in and enjoy a hair raising ride back, or grab a flight to Penang spend a couple of hours sight seeing and fly back. Or just get an extension by paying 1900 baht at the immigration office.

Another suggestion: Go to the US version of the website
*****************
- this travel website offers 24 hour free cancellation for some flights (you will see a green text on the flights that have this cancellation option). Do not use the Australian version, need to go to the .com version and pay in $US

Book and pay for a flight to KL on the morning of your flight out of Australia (and pick a date within the 30 days of your visa waiver).

The airline will be OK with you showing this as proof that you are leaving thailand within the visa waiver period

Once you arrive in Thailand, cancel the flight and get your money back. Then do the visa waiver extension as per other posts in Bangkok.

Hope that helps!

Just pay the 1500 baht fine when you leave. There are no repercussions

I don't need the advice, was someone else. But thanks for caring ☺️

Also have an overstay stamp in their passport which could affect visas to other countries they may want to visit in the future.

@David *******
Glad it worked out for you. It does for many. Unfortunately there are some that it doesn’t.

@Stuart ********
sorry Stuart you are correct. I accidentally overstayed 3 days and paid the fine. But you are right and should do the correct things I apologise an hope Lynette takes your advice
Stuart *********
@David *******
We see so many stupid answers like this. Perhaps if you get to the airport you’ll only need to pay 1500 baht for a 3 day overstay. No repercussions. Except perhaps you won’t make it that far and may be stopped at a police checkpoint, arrested for being on overstay, sent to an immigration dentition centre, after paying a hefty fine and for a ticket out, deported and banned from entering Thailand for a year. Rarely happens but it can. Advising people that “there’s no repercussions” is just ignorant.

unless caught on overstay in the days before getting to airport. . ☹️

Depends on the airline, I've seen some people say they've been asked from Australia. But I haven't been in the last 2 years. That's with Thai Airways, Jetstar & Singapore Airways.

Look into onward flights, so if needed you can quickly buy a cheap ticket ($10-20) at the check-in counter.

Joe *****
To go it won' be a problem because you have 30 days + 30 days extension once in Thailand, to return make the extension or pay 500 baths per extra day I suppose that Australians can get the 30 days extension as Europeans
Joe *****
@Paul ******
yes that's true, I'm staying 90 days but 89 nights because arrival is already 1
Joe *****
@Stuart ********
Well, is not really like that, because I went to Thailand with a 60 days tourist visa but my ticket out was the day 89, & it was accepted by the company desk because the extension. I think it will depend on the person, but from my experience it will be accept on a 90% of the cases. Just to he sure 100%, she can buy an onward ticket out before the 30 days, just 12$. It is also working. But is true that every company & every employee is different.
Stuart *********
@Joe ****
Not a particularly helpful reply. Saying it won’t be a problem because they could get an extension won’t help them at the check in desk when the airline insists on a ticket out within 30 days allowed, regardless that they could get an extension.

Advising people that overstay is only 500 baht is technically correct but omits the part where if they are caught on overstay there can be huge issues.
Stuart *********
1. Up to the particular airline.

2. Yes

3. IT square, Laksi Plaza, 3rd floor. Immigration counter K

You will need :-

A blue pen (some offices are pedantic about blue)

Your passport

Fill out form TM7 (available at the office)

Copy passport data page (signed by you)

Copy of entry stamp (signed by you)

Copy of your visa - either the sticker in your passport or pdf evisa (the former signed by you). * if you had one.

Copy of TM6 departure card (signed by you) *if you were issued one - if you entered by air after July ‘22 you wouldn’t have been given one so leave the space on the form blank.

Passport photo (most offices have facilities on site or nearby)

1,900 baht

Some offices may ask for a TM30, which your hotel or landlord should have filed on your behalf. A screenshot of their filing it online will generally suffice as evidence you have one - except if you use the Chiang Mai or Jomtien offices. You have to get the screenshot converted to the paper receipt from a manual TM30 filing.
