hi! After some confirmation, please. Visa-free entry (Australian) is 30 days and can be extended for a further 30 days at a Thai immigration office closest to our location? (fee approximately (thb2000) and is a passport photo required at the time of application for extension? Lastly, can I apply for the extension at any time during the initial 30-day stay? Thank you heaps!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Australian citizens can enter Thailand visa-free for 30 days, with the possibility of a 30-day extension at a local immigration office. The extension fee is approximately THB 1,900 and a passport photo is required. Extensions may be applied for at any time during the initial stay, although some immigration offices, like those in Jomtien, have restrictions about when applications can be submitted.

You will need :-

A blue pen (some offices are pedantic about blue)

Your passport

Fill out form TM7 (available at the office)

Copy passport data page (signed by you)

Copy of entry stamp (signed by you)

Copy of your visa - either the sticker in your passport or pdf evisa (the former signed by you). * if you had one.

Copy of TM6 departure card (signed by you) *if you entered by air you wouldn’t have been given one so leave the space on the form blank.

Passport photo (most offices have facilities on site or nearby)

1,900 baht

Some offices may ask for a TM30, which your hotel or landlord should have filed on your behalf. A printed screenshot of their filing it online will generally suffice as evidence you have one - except if you use the Chiang Mai or Jomtien offices. You have to get the screenshot converted to the paper receipt from a manual TM30 filing.

They add on the days so there is no downside to going early. Most offices allow 30 days prior but Jomtien, Koh Samui and Koh Pha Ngan you have to wait until your final week.

Roger. Get there before it opens buddy. Long wait on some days. They break for lunch. Shut down. Then back again. It’s like the DMV from hell.

immediate. Well depending on the office you use that could be 20 minutes or 3 hours…..

One more thing? Is it possible to rock up and apply for a 2 month visa on entry at Suvarnabumi , pay then and there, travelling from Melbourne..? Or do I have to have the visa already stamped in passport?

Settle down Damo. Who asked for 100% on anything? Always one keyboard troll. It’s a general discussion for everyone to participate or not. In your case obviously NOT. If you don’t know scroll on.

Thanks.

Nope. You either buy a tourist visa prior to travel to Thailand (Australia has now switched to the evisa system so you don’t send your passport to the embassy/consulate anymore) or you enter with no visa and get 30 days.

Both options are extendable once for 30 days.

They only changed to the evisa on Tuesday so we don’t have any info as yet as to typical turn around times. London is about 3 working days. LA is about 2 weeks. Ottawa is sometimes months.

No it’s not possible, but you can apply for a tourist visa in Melbourne or at a thai embassy outside Thailand. This gives you 60 days upon arrival which can be extended with 30 days the same way locally.

@Jan *****************
You can’t apply in Melbourne. It’s all online now. If you live in NSW you apply through the Sydney consulate. If you live anywhere else in Aus then it routes through the Canberra embassy.

Ok, thanks i don’t have this specific knowledge, my point was that you can apply online from home or at an embassy outside Thailand.

Perfect answer, and some hotels -at least surrounding to the Jomtien immigration don’t even give you a screenshot of their registration but just a written letter to confirm your stay and you just use this as an attachment to your manual TM.30.

Yes, the fee is 1900 thb and a pass photo is required. It depends on where you are. Several immigrations will give you the extension at any time, but in Jomtien just within the last week.
