Currently staying in Bangkok with my Thai girlfriend on a 60 day tourist visa. I am looking to extend my visa for a further 30 days in the new year. My question is can I do my extension in Bangkok if my TM30 is registered in Phuket?

The reason it was registered is Phuket is because my girlfriend owns a property there and is renting the property in Bangkok. She didn’t want to cause any unnecessary problems between herself and her landlord.

I do plan on heading to Phuket in the new year anyways so not too worried either way. Any help with my question would be much appreciated.

Kind regards, Joe

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Bangkok on a tourist visa, seeking to extend their stay for another 30 days. They inquire if they can complete this extension in Bangkok while their TM30 is registered in Phuket due to rental arrangements. Responses suggest that extending may be possible but emphasize the importance of having an updated TM30 registered to the local address in Bangkok. It's noted that the extension process might be more straightforward in Phuket, and using a visa agent is recommended for those who want clarity and assistance.

If your in Bangkok you should have your tm30 there

If you are really worried about it, use a visa agent. You’ll pay an extra 2K but they’ll tell you if it’s ok or not and get it done if it is.

Do as

says. Just FYI Phuket does not require a filed TM30 for extensions off a tourist or exempt entry.

Personally I would do it at Blue Tree in Phuket. Usually not busy and in and out within 20 minutes. Patong probably around 30. Phuket town Approx 1 hour depending on how busy it gets.

I don’t know CW wait times. But I’d guess at least an hour. Others with knowledge there may confirm if that’s the case.

can also make an appointment at Chaeng Watthana

You can research the TM30 rules on the IO website.

For clarity you have submitted a TM-30 in Phuket but you are actually living in another rented accommodation in BKK?

The law states the "landlord" of the rental property in BKK should have filed a TM30.

But that doesn't stop the onus on you either.

In order to get an extension you will have to have an updated verifiable TM-30.

This would not be possible in BKK for the reason stated.

But as you are going back to Phuket you should be able to apply for an extension there.

It's not a good idea not complying with the IO rules.

It will catch up on you, or it will have consequences for those that live here more permanently if the rules are continuously flouted.

Don't think that the IO cannot read a public post either.

Now lets get this right. More likely her Dad owns the property not her. So do ur research first

Normally it's fine but there have been some reports in the last week about people being required to show a TM30 for a tourist extension in Bangkok.

You can try going and see if it works out, or you can checkin one night at the cheapest hotel you can find and ask for TM30.

Or you can wait until you return to Phuket.

Note that in Bangkok for an actual tourist visa, you'd be going to the Chaeng Watthana office.

If you're in BKK, after about 15-20 days into your 60 day TR you can apply for the extension, mate.

I understand your desire for the path of least resistance; but I wonder if any IO will concur with what's a work-around solution BEFORE it's done-- after all, you'll likely be in front of a different officer who'll have the discretion to approve or not / require the TM 30; accept that you're staying in some cheap hotel or such. 🙃

Curious of the result if you have that conversation.

Cheers & good luck

ok that’s great. Initially I will go and talk with them well in advanced to see what they say. If they say I can’t then I can book a cheap hotel for 1 night or just do when I go to Phuket like you say. Thanks for your reply 👍

I wouldn't be telling them you're registered in Phuket, just fill in the forms and hope they don't ask for a TM30
