Hello, I will be in Thailand on 60-day tourist visa and would like to extend for 30 days. I am not staying in one city, town or island, I am planning on moving around and staying at hostels. Would it be difficult to get a TM30 for the extension?

And do I HAVE to go to the immigration office in Bangkok for this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can extend your 60-day tourist visa for an additional 30 days while moving around Thailand and staying in hostels. The hostels or hotels you stay at will file your TM30 registration for you. To apply for the extension, you should visit the immigration office that serves the area where your TM30 is filed, which means you do not have to go specifically to the immigration office in Bangkok. There are over 70 immigration offices in Thailand, and you can apply for the extension when you have 30 days or less left on your visa.

You use the immigration office that serves the area where you stay in thailand (There are OVER 70 immigration offices in the country)

The hotel where you stay files the TM30 online and they can give you proof it was filed

You can apply for an extension at most offices when you have 30 days or less left on your stamp. There is no reason to wait for you stamp to run down as they add the 30 days to your expiration date

Thank you, I didn't know I had to wait until 30 days or less. Very helpful ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

just so you're clear while you might have done that, Most offices have an 'apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp, some (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Buriram, Phuket, and a few others) have when you have 45 days or less, and a few (Jomtien) will send you away and say come back when you have a couple days left

Telling someone to wait until they have 30 days or less left on their current stamp is just a way of making sure that MOST people can get the extension issued when they go

Go to the immigration office where your current tm30 is registered

Staying in hostels and hotels is cool, they will file your TM30 for you. You must apply for your extension at the office that serves the area where your TM30 is filed. So you should have no problems on that front.
