TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the possibility of entering Thailand and obtaining a visa exemption which is now 45 days, considering the COVID-19 situation and ASQ requirements. Participants mention the necessity of travel insurance and adherence to quarantine protocols. Questions arise regarding the effectiveness and knowledge of airline check-in personnel regarding these visa rules, and costs related to quarantine and documentation are debated.

Derek Christian the cost of required insurance, and your quarantine hotel cost, as you are still required to do 14 days in quarantine at your cost. There are no exceptions to these, and it will cost you about US$3000+, and that is with a cheap quarantine hotel.

sometimes things happens because the people at the checkin desk do not now the last rules. Believe it is NOT swiss air but the person, not well informed at the checkin desk. Just ask for the superior!

how true. I have had problems at Manchester airport in the past. I was returning to Thailand and I had an O-A visa and a 12 month extension stamp and a re-entry permit. Because the original visa was expired and I didn’t have a flight out of Thailand he was going to refuse me travel. I stood my ground and spoke to his superior and after a phone call all was resolved. In this case it was an agent working on behalf of the airline and not the actual airline themselves.

A worrying thing that the check in staff didn’t know basic stamps in a passport.

@John *****
I know john but they work for SWISS and I speak with the Boss, at the call center it was thé same story

@Richard *******
Check-in personnel are not employed by the airlines.
Richard ********
@Ralph ******
Wrong it s 16 years check in staff worked for the airlines in Paris CDG

@Richard *******
Check-in personell in Zurich are employed by SWISSPORT, not by Swiss Airline. SWISSPORT is also operating worldwide. Paris might be an exception.

@Richard *******
Nope! You're wrong!!! They are linked but separate companies. Educate yourself.

Plus there is always the chance your spend the first 30 in quarantine one way or another
Tod *********
yep totally CAN enter the country on a visa exempt entry stamp which IS as you pointed out now 45 days.

BUT

If you're gonna spend close to 3K US dollars to get back into the country (the average of what people seem to be spending all in to get back) why not just suck it up and BUY a single entry tourist visa for 40 bucks while you're at it?
Derek ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Tod ********
how’s do you mean 3k and what the other option
Tod *********
@Derek **********
repatriation flight back here, cost of 100K US dollars in covid insurance, cost of a 15 day stay at an approved thai gov't quarantine facility, cost of having a doc in the US sign off on a "fit-2-fly" certificate, cost of postage, gas etc getting all that paperwork done. Several people have cost it out down to the last satang (one

of a baht ;) ) and they spent close to 3K US to get back all in when everything was all said and done.

My point was IF you're gonna do that, spend the 40 bucks and get a single entry tourist visa too :)

@Derek **********
the cost of required insurance, and your quarantine hotel cost, as you are still required to do 14 days in quarantine at your cost. There are no exceptions to these, and it will cost you about US$3000+, and that is with a cheap quarantine hotel.
Michael *********
@Kool ******
3000 is excessive unless you staying in the Shangri-La or sth. I got in for 1500 and that’s with not staying in the cheapest ASQ hotel (but then, my health insurance already covered Covid internationally so didn’t have to buy a new one)
Kool *******
@Michael ********
, but you still had to pay for your health insurance. It isn't free. And, you had to pay for covid-19 test, and fit to fly certificate. All these would put it close to $3000.
Michael *********
@Kool ******
1200 for ASQ, 180 for Covid test, my insurance I pay every month 480 regardless of going to Thailand or not, coe and visa 80. My flight was 550 back and forth. Total would be 2010$ or 2490 if I count the insurance which I pay regardless of going to Thailand or not
Michael *********
@Aguilar ****
nope, it’s an health insurance in Switzerland. It covers covid internationally
Aguilar *****
@Michael ********
, ah ok thanks
Greg ********
Pretty sure the 30 day Visa Exempt is now 45 days to cover ASQ. The 30 day one has always been extendable by another 30 not 15 days so yes.
Derek ***********

@Greg *******
I did mean the 15 was the quarantine portion
Greg ********
@Derek **********
I think that is now added to the initial 30 giving 45 in total. If from UK better move fast as Ministry of Health have asked to ban UK visitors and currently being discussed. Family of 4 brought in the new variant strain.
James ******
@Greg *******
so what’s the case if you hold a UK passport but not been back for over 2 yrs? Entry declined based on passport?
Greg ********
@James *****
The Foreign Ministry have refused the Ministry of Healths request. UK arrivals fine as quarantine works.
