Hi guys, is it true that you can get 45 days visa on arrival instead of the normal 30 days? Nothing needed, only a return ticket when entering? Is it really that simple? :)) thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, it is currently possible to receive a 45-day visa exemption upon arrival in Thailand instead of the usual 30 days for certain nationalities, a temporary measure in effect until March 31, 2023. Travelers do not necessarily need a return ticket; an onward ticket may suffice, although airlines may check for it before boarding. It is important to note that this is distinct from the visa on arrival, which requires an application and fee.

obviously you are very concerned amd keep infoed day to day

. or maybe you've been in a long meditation session in a cave ?????
John *******
No it's not true visa on arrival you pay for it you are confused with visa exempt is 45 days until 31 march 2023

It's not a return ticket that's needed. It's a ticket out of Thailand. Normally this is checked by the airline bringing you in, hence most people claiming they were never checked... They were, just not by the people they were expecting to be checking them.

some of those flights / visas / exemptions would require it and some of them not. I recommend next time you fly to Thailand, not having an ongoing ticket, flying in on an entry method that requires one and letting us know how you go on

I came with Thai airways. One way. Visa exemption. I was prepared to buy onward ticket but they didn't ask me anything.
Lyndon ************
@Marc *******
would you advise that people don't need one or we're you lucky?
Marc ********
@Lyndon ***********
I would not advise.
Terry ********
@Lyndon ***********
no, I’ve never had that checked by an airline.

@Terry *******
Just because you’ve never been asked has absolutely no bearing on whether someone else could be asked. Some airlines will. Some won’t.

@Stuart ********
I agree. I never said that no one could be asked.
Lyndon ************
@Terry *******
it' normally checked by the airline because they have to fly you back if you are denied entry because of it
Terry ********
@Lyndon ***********
I understand but that has been my experience. Never checked.
Lyndon ************
@Terry *******
who do you fly with? From where? What Visa?
Terry ********
@Lyndon ***********
over the years, I’ve flown with JAL, ANA, Korean, Thai, to name a few, flown from USA. Plus all the regional airlines from neighboring countries. I have a retirement extension now but have traveled tourist visas and visa exempt in the past.
Lyndon ************
@Terry *******
meaning...? Are you suggesting people don't need it?
Terry ********
@Lyndon ***********
I wasn't suggesting anything. I was just giving my experience.
Greg ********
I didn’t even need a return ticket

Arrived a couple of days ago, picked up some duty free gave the immigration officer my passport - he stamped it and then stamped a date 45 days later, gave me my passport and off we went. Really that easy

45 then extend another 30

Tourists holding passports which are on the 45-day visa exempt list don't necessarily need a return ticket. An onward ticket to another country would suffice. In most cases, immigration don't even ask for onward tickets.

@Frank *******
Immigration don't but the airline usually does.

, indeed, they did last week, for the first time ever. But they were happy when I told them I'd travel to other countries in the region before my 45 days are up. No proof needed in my case.

Visa on arrival was never 30 days. Visa on arrival is where you arrive and apply for and pay for a visa. It was 14 days and was increased to 30 days temporarily.

You might be asking about visa exempt, where you have NO visa at all. This used to be 30 days and was increased to 45 days temporarily. If you are from one of the countries that is eligible then you don't need anything to receive it besides your passport.
