Hello Group,

I have a very specific question and please only answer if you can give an advice, I don't want a discussion.

The situation:

I have a friend he can about one year ago on a tourist visa. Now he stayed on the 2 month extensions untill now. The last time he got the extension they told him it's the last one.

Now my question:

The boarder to Laos ( close to Vienntan ) opened. So he could go and get a new tourist visa at the Thaiembassy? After he had now one with extensions? Or is that kind of visa run not possible?

And again. Please only answer if you got Informationens about this specific matter.

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user asks whether their friend, who has exhausted the maximum extensions on a tourist visa, can obtain a new tourist visa by going to the Thai embassy in Laos. The community responds with varied insights, noting that the Laos border is not fully open for individual tourists and sharing experiences regarding visa runs. Suggestions include flying to Cambodia or Singapore to secure a new visa, but cautioning about the potential for difficulties re-entering Thailand due to prior Covid extensions. Users indicate that having a visa agent may help and that it is important to be aware of the specific entry requirements and previous visa history.

The CCSA announcement clarified that, in addition to airports, only four land border posts were open to tourists and expats: Nongkhai and Udon Thani (near the Laos border) and Songkhla and Satun (near Malaysia). But entrants there still need to apply in advance via the digital platform Thailand Pass by uploading several documents including vaccination status, proof of booking into a Thai hotel pending the result of the RT-PCR post-arrival test, the US$20,000 insurance requirement as well as personal documentation. This process can take up to seven days according to the Tourist Authority of Thailand website.

problem to get in on the Loas side

Cambodia or Singapore are the best options for an air travel visa run.

Cambodia is cheapest and is where most people are going.

If he has more than a few Covid stamps, it’s possible he could have trouble getting a tourist visa in Cambodia or a visa exemption on arrival at BKK.

If he’s in that situation, it’s worth looking into having a good visa agent help with the immigration or visa process.

Keep in mind that if immigration thinks you’re doing a visa run, it doesn’t matter if you went to Cambodia for 1 day or 2 months, they could give you a hassle.

It’s going to come down to what previous stamps/visas are in his passport and the mood of the embassy staff or immigration officer he deals with.
Alan *******
@Maxim **********
Makes sense. They’d def take advantage of that to gouge you.
Maxim ***********
@Alan ******
Yeah, the price I'm referring to is people panicked at BKK that had to find agent on the spot.
Alan *******
@Maxim **********
Yes. The prices I’ve seen to have a contact help you through BKK immigration ranged from 2k to 10k. Most were 5-6k.

If you think there’s any real chance you’ll be denied, it’s worth paying 5k vs being forced to buy a ticket to somewhere and then try and figure out what to do next.
Maxim ***********
Worse case if he get denied he contact agent who then contact officers in Suvarnabhumi Airport and he can get in for 10-15k baht. It's common practice.

As l understand it the border is only open for frayet

The ironic thing is that you are very firm about what you want this thread to be yet you are asking one of the most asked question ever on this thread. You can type keywords and find the same question everywhere in this group. To answer your question... the border is only open to people with a Laotian guide, so very few people have gone there. And those who did have not come back with a tourist visa. I've read only 2 people who did the trip and they had re-entry, they were on long term visa.

apparently Singapore is being difficult issuing visas also.

at that point I have a question. Why not making the new visa in Singapore? Thai Embassy in Singapore used to be good. I have good experience. I married there my Thaiwife.
Bobby ********
Martin Kehrwald. There are flights from BKK to Phnom Penn, which is the easiest and cheapest route, but BKK can pose a lot of problems for those with extensive covid extensions. Suggest your friend follow John Stanners advice and do the visa run through Singapore returning to Chiang Mai.
John **********
@Martin *********
there are regular flights from BKK to Phnom Penh which is where almost everyone is going for visa runs but those with a history of Covid extensions are getting a grilling on returning to BKK and many refused entry. The suggestion is that you make your return flight via Singapore and avoid BKK flying from Singapore to Phuket, Chiang Mai or similar
Paolo ************
Why go out?He can get another covid extension, just change immigration, I went yesterday at jomtien immigration and they said yes, even if I have already 8 consecutive covid extension from 2020.

I just checked flights. There is nothing from BkK. How or better from where to fly?
Maxim ***********
@Bobby *******
Yes, and these reports are mostly in Bangkok. It seems like Phuket give a lot less trouble upon entry, and Chiang Mai is a piece of cake as usual.
Bobby ********
Martin Kehrwald. It means part of a tour group. There has been reports in another group that no tourist visas are available from the Embassy in Laos. At this moment the only way to do a "visa run" is by flying to Phnom Penh, and applying to re-enter Thailand with a Thailand Pass. Be wary however, that some people are being denied re-entry into Thailand on account of having extensive history of "covid extensions".
Maxim ***********
Your friend need to fly to Phnom Penh to get his tourist visa and come back to Thailand.

I know most concerning visa. I do mine for 18 years but right now I need help for a friend in his situation and I simply need solid details. And not a discussion.

What does it mean Laotian guide? I have friends in Laos. Can they do it?
Michael ********
P.S lots of people they told last one have been able to get another
Thomas *************
@Michael *******
yes, exactly true. Female IO said it is my last extension on March 10 th, then even asked me to provide her a date of return to USA. I gave a random date but I am absolutely sure I will get another 60-day extension on May 11th. Moreover, I firmly believe there will be a few more 60-day covid19 extensions beyond the May 25th deadline. IOs at BKK and at other offices are not aware of the basis of the policy decision and they are inclined to think in same mindset as in the pre-covid era when Thailand was receiving an average of 85 million tourists a year.

Border to Laos not open for individual foreign tourists.
Michael ********
There are many many posts about this specific question.

Cambodia and flying would be his best bet and not flying into Bangkok.

Will add your post into Cambodia topics section look through there. We have had no reports yet of people being able to go over to Loas via land border as tourists (doesnt mean it hasnt happened) but border has been open for few months now.

Myanmar had a Coup d'Ă©tat/genocide going on since last year, so the border tourist in CM usually use for border run won't be open for them anytime soon. It's way too dangerous of a country to border run from.
Maxim ***********
@Martin *********
You are confusing things. Borders have been open for a long time, but mostly for trucks, locals, etc, not for tourists. For example, the border in Nong Khai have been open for more then 1 year.
Michael ********
@Martin *********
Land borders have been open for a while in Nong Khai. But they are only open for Thai/Laotian residents.

Read through the many posts on this advise looking at the ones for Bruce in the Cambodia topic

the boarder just opened recently. But just one crossing. That's why I ask. I guess people in Chiang Mai Region may done visarun already like this. I'd need to know if after these covid extensions it is now possible to get straight a new one. Or is it the 'landboarder thing'? So he would need to fly out and in again?
