Im married to a Thai wife, currently on a tourist visa. I want to do a 60 day extension based on marriage but can I do the 30 days first and the 60 days afterwards? So basically 60+30+60? I also already made one 60 day extension this year if it matters. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of extending their tourist visa in Thailand by first obtaining a 30-day extension based on marriage, followed by a 60-day extension. Other comments suggest that many immigration offices may require the 30-day extension to be used first before applying for the 60-day extension. There are also mentions of new rules regarding visa extensions and shared experiences from others who have navigated similar situations.

yes Armando I know I can go there to ask them, thanks for that. But that’s why we have this group, to ask questions here instead of

I've heard people say one or the other and one must be first. Our office told us we could mix and match. That is not the same as it being true. Good luck

New rules. June 1st can now stay 60 days with visa on arrival if from select countries.

@Neil ********
this isn't a law yet and no one knows the details. It also has absolutely zero relevance to the op who is already in the country and already got 60 days with their tourist visa.

@Brandon ***********
Copy that. Maybe should’ve been placed in a separate posting. Although I do understand it’s coming into law on June 1st. Cheers.

there's been MANY times in the past, more than I can count, where something was posted in the headlines and then is vastly different from what was initially posted, or just disappears without another word. Don't ever anticipate too much for this type of thing in Thailand.

@Brandon ***********
you mean everything relating to visas the first time there is a comment from the government. Literally every single visa.

we will know this new rules, the day after tomorrow, late afternoon 😁

Where did you guys get married? Were you married when she acquired the tourist visa?
Neil *********
@Ryan *******
I couldn’t agree more Ryan. Tried several times with my girlfriend for vacation to USA. declined declined declined. I even appealed the decision with local government in Los Angeles who communicated with US Embassy in Bangkok to no avail.

@Neil ********
unfortunately there is no appeal. The interviewing officer has absolute authority if you look at the State Department and USICS websites.

@Frank *********
But it was worth trying. In addition, something has to change here. This isn’t fair for the people that have valid relationships.

@Neil ********
believe me, I totally agree.

got married in Phuket. I was already married when I got the tourist visa

Where are you from? U.S. or Canada?

I met a Thai woman and the options for her to come to the U.S. are not very appealing. Particularly the Fiancé/Marriage Visas. I was told by a lawyer in Bangkok that she will have to wait 2 years before she can come to the US and live with me. It’s absolutely ridiculous. 5 million illegal invaders just walk across our borders every year and get to stay and get free government assistance, but if you want to get your woman to be able to stay with you the legal way, you get penalized 😡😡😡😡😡

same situation, so I moved to Thailand. Now jumping through their immigration hoops.

I can’t move to Thailand unfortunately. I have a 13 year old son to help take care of.

@Ryan *******
that’s tough man. Mine are grown but I do miss them. 60,000 baht plus to do the VISA.
Ryan ********
@Marcus ***********
I haven’t seen anything that said it’s 60,000 baht for a visa. Did you pay that? I’m going to be there for 2 weeks in August. I don’t think I want to even mess around with the tourist visa. Heard opposing stories about them, both good and bad
Marcus ************
@Ryan *******
it’s nearly impossible unless she’s wealthy. 60k is what an attorney will charge (last price I got). Tried it myself but it’s like endless red tape. Strange how so many just walk from Mexico no problem but honest people have to do all this.

@Marcus ***********
I did the paperwork myself it’s tedious, but certainly not impossible and absolutely not worth paying somebody 60 K for

@Ryan *******
can't use a border condition in US to skirt this issue.

So, so many Thai ladies get to US under many conditions. Then disappear onto Thai Town on LA. ( tens of thousands ).
Neil *********
@Ryan *******
Yes. Nuts!! Problem is I’m majority of Thai women that go to the US don’t come back or overstay their visas.
Sean **********
@Neil ********
do you really know that to be the reason? Seems to me like every country in the world with lower average income or subject to the same painfully, slow procedures.

But I also had friends from England that went through the process, and it took them two years as well
Neil *********
@Sean *********
Yes. Its true.

I’m talking about getting an extension to stay in Thailand
Ryan ********

Actually, many immigration offices will REQUIRE you to use the 30 day extension first.

The 30 day extension will be added to the end, but be careful about the visiting Thai family extension. At many offices this will start the day you apply and will not be added to the end because it's for a different reason than your existing stamp. So make sure you ask when you go to get your tourist extension about when the 60 day extension will start.

@Brandon ***********
your are correct the 60 day is a "change of reason" and starts the day of application.
