I'm currently applying for my one year extension which is now being processed.

I have to go back to immigration on 29th of March.

Does anyone know if I can now withdraw money from my bank account?

This would mean that my balance would go below 400,000 baht.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether an individual can withdraw money from their bank account while waiting for a one-year visa extension in Thailand. Most commenters advise against withdrawing funds until the extension is officially stamped, citing the importance of maintaining the required balance (400,000 baht). Several share personal experiences where they either withdrew funds without issue or suggest that it is safer to keep the funds in the bank until the visa extension is confirmed. There's an acknowledgment that immigration rules may vary by office, and patience is recommended during the process.

Have had 4 years now the same visa. I have always drawn from it once I have gave my application in. Never had a problem.

Ask your Immigration Office

The officers in Korat might be nice BUT as there's no official policy on it I wouldn't trust their answer.

The O/P was given sound accurate advice.

There is NO written policy about it, and it was suggested he err on the side of caution and leave it in for the next two weeks until he goes back to get the year (11 month really) extension inked in.

But what if you are given bad advice here?

I live in Korat, and the Immigration offers there are friendly and helpful
Tod *********
believe it or not that's NOT a good idea because seeing as there is no officially written policy about it an immigration officer could make up anything they want to as an answer.

I always keep it in the bank until I get the stamp I suggest to do the same so there are no issues

Good decision, sit on the 400k at least until you have the year extension.

I will relate one case I know with 100% certainty is true because I was with them both times they went to immigrations to turn in their paperwork.

The guy applied using 400K baht banked money and it was seasoned the requisite 2 months prior to the application. He got the 30 day under consideration stamp. Unbeknownst to me he pulled out ALL the money and put it back in a timed deposit account in another bank just a day or two after he applied for the extension.

I went back to him on the report back date and they stamped the extension into his passport without question. In fact he didn't even mention to me about pulling the money out until we were sitting in the queue getting a re-entry permit for him. :O

Still I would say leave it in, don't tempt fate, how things are supposed to work and how things really work here are totally different sometimes.

And this is the reason why in my reply I said, what the real rule is and what an immigration officer might imagine that rule says are two completely different things.

I would say you're 14 days from going back and getting your 11 months stamped into your passport (they only give you 11 months because the one month under consideration is part of the year) :O

Just wait it out..

immigration in Rayong told me to keep it in the bank until I get the extension stamped in the passport.

It appears that you’ve already applied for an extension based on marriage and the application and documents have already been accepted for this year. You’re only waiting for the remaining 11 months.

In this case, I’m pretty sure you can access your money.

The way the law is written and the way it is interpreted by the immigration officers are two different things.

It states the money must be seasoned 2 months prior to you applying (meaning that once you apply and are under consideration you can take the money back out)

BUT

I have seen officers tell people that they needed to leave it in UNTIL the under consideration period is over and you have your year extension stamped in.

Now I have never ever seen a case where someone took the money out of their account and then when they went back were denied their extension BUT I would hate for you to be the first one. Phuket Immigrations can be persnickety at times.

better not. Wait until you get your extension. You never know
